The Sales and Marketing Manager position plays a pivotal role in increasing revenue streams throughout the hotel by engaging in strategic sales initiatives and managing revenue effectively. This role requires a proactive approach to business development, including generating new business via outside sales, calls, and networking efforts targeting both individual guests and group bookings. The Sales and Marketing Manager will collaborate closely with the General Manager and other departments to ensure alignment with overall property objectives such as budget targets, occupancy rates, and guest satisfaction levels.

In this leadership role, the Sales and Marketing Manager is responsible for maintaining positive and professional relations with clients, responding promptly to group inquiries, managing contracts and billing for meeting rooms and guest room blocks, and providing accurate sales reporting. They will represent the hotel at various business and social functions, attend sales and revenue meetings, and assist with forecasting demand and rate recommendations. This role also requires the manager to foster a culture of service excellence among staff by monitoring guest satisfaction and addressing any areas of improvement.

  • Creation of new business through various efforts, including outside sales, calls to area businesses to introduce the hotel and its services and calls to businesses in feeder markets to generate incoming group and individual business
  • Respond to all group inquiries including guest room blocks and meeting room
  • Prepare group and meeting room contracts and ensure they are executed properly, including deposit requirements
  • Maintain open communication with group/meeting planner throughout the sales process, and follow up after the group departure
  • Ensure that final billing is correct and collected promptly
  • Maintain sales records and provide reporting as required
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all past, existing, and future clients
  • Represent the hotel at area business and social functions
  • Actively participate in weekly sales and marketing meetings, as well as revenue meetings
  • Make recommendations to increase sales and revenues
  • Review and understand the profit and loss statement
  • Review weekly group reservations for pick-up and cut-off dates
  • Participate in all staff meetings, including daily stand-up, monthly staff meetings, and annual training
  • Conduct meetings if applicable
  • Oversee meeting room scheduling, billing, and set up if applicable
  • Review arrivals daily, weekly, and monthly assisting the General Manager with rate recommendations and demand forecast
  • Work with outside vendors such as catering or transportation to ensure group needs are met
  • Provide excellence in guest service and monitor guest satisfaction and make corrections in areas of opportunity and follow up with staff members creating a culture of service excellence
  • Use persuasive selling techniques to sell rooms and promote all marketing programs
  • Have knowledge of property management system
  • Knowledge of how to operate computer equipment, including Microsoft Office suite
  • Participate in and support a positive, enjoyable work environment
  • Hold an understanding of hotel products and services including food and beverage and recreation
  • Perform other duties as assigned
