Job Description
Zen-Noh Grain Corporation (ZGC) is a premier supplier of quality grains for export markets, committed to delivering safe and stable supplies of U.S. corn, milo, soybeans, and other food commodities. Established in 1979, ZGC operates as a U.S. subsidiary of ZEN-NOH, the largest agricultural cooperative association in Japan. The company is headquartered in Convent, Louisiana, where it manages the highest-handling grain export terminal in the United States. With strategic expansions through joint ventures in Brazil, Canada, and Hong Kong, ZGC continues to broaden its grain origination and export footprint globally. In addition to grain trading, ZGC operates a forage processing and export business headquartered in Washington, further diversifying its agricultural services.
The Safety Coordinator position at Zen-Noh Grain Corporation plays a crucial role in promoting and ensuring safe operations across the company. This role is primarily responsible for coaching and guiding line organization staff at all levels to effectively use safety systems that promote distinctive safe behaviors. The Safety Coordinator identifies opportunities for improving safety knowledge and skills among staff, implements approved safety recommendations, and assists with regular safety training across various locations to maintain a high standard of safety compliance.
As a Safety Coordinator at ZGC, you will work closely with Facility Managers and Group Managers, frequently engaging in fieldwork, conducting safety observations, and coaching management to reinforce safe practices. Through audits, site visits, and detailed reporting, this role measures and evaluates leading safety indicators and supports continuous safety improvements. The coordinator will also attend pre-shift meetings, facilitate new employee orientations, contractor safety training, and contribute to updating the company’s safety management systems.
Additional responsibilities include following up on accidents, injuries, near misses, and incidents at assigned locations to ensure thorough investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions. The role may also collaborate on industrial hygiene testing and support operational changes, new work processes, or product safety assessments. This position requires regular travel, up to 85% including overnight stays, and involves working under various environmental conditions both indoors and outdoors.
Candidates for this role should possess a degree in safety or equivalent education and training, with a minimum of one year of safety experience, including people management and training. Preferred qualifications include ASP or GSP certification or progress toward these credentials. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong auditing skills, hazard identification knowledge, excellent communication and presentation abilities, and effective coaching and mentoring capabilities.
The Safety Coordinator role at Zen-Noh Grain Corporation offers a competitive base salary range from $57,000 to $76,200, dependent on factors such as location and experience. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package, including an outstanding 401(k) retirement plan with company contributions, medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, paid leave, wellness and recognition programs, and community involvement opportunities. Known for stability and high ethics, ZGC is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values its employees and encourages applicants ready to make a meaningful impact and grow their careers within a supportive agricultural industry leader.
