This role is essential to maintaining and enhancing the safety standards across all operational activities. As a Safety Specialist at Lewis, you will serve as a visible leader who motivates and influences teams by embodying the company’s core Operating Principles. You will work closely with Operations to drive continuous safety improvements, conduct worksite observations, and lead safety training and coaching sessions. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of safety regulations such as OSHA and ANSI. The position involves extensive travel, about 30 to 40 percent of the time, including overnight visits, to provide oversight and governance across various field locations. \n\nLewis emphasizes employee development, offering paid training and certifications, providing avenues for internal promotions, and granting access to an exceptional Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), allowing employees to share in the company’s success. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in line clearance or similar industry
- OSHA 30 Hour certification or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Bilingual Spanish/English required
- Ability to travel 30-40 percent of the time including overnight
- Must have strong leadership ability
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency with computer and MS Office
- Knowledge of vegetation management safety practices
- Ability to investigate and report incidents
- Physical ability to perform job duties
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development
- Follow all PPE requirements according to OSHA and ANSI standards
Job Qualifications
- Associate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of High School diploma/GED with safety/industry credentials such as CUSP, CTSP, ASP, GSP, ISA Arborist
- Minimum 1 year of experience in line clearance or related industry
- Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI requirements
- OSHA 30 Hour or equivalent certification
- Valid driver's license
- Bilingual in Spanish and English required
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or Occupational Health and Safety preferred
- Minimum 1 year in a safety leadership role preferred
- Experience in line clearance, ISA Arborist, or related industry preferred
- CTSP certification required within 1 year of hire
- Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification preferred
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
- Proficiency with computers, smartphones, and MS Office Suite
- Knowledge of vegetation management tools, practices, and procedures
- Familiarity with OSHA, ANSI, DOT, and tree industry regulations and standards
Job Duties
- Serve as a visible leader influencing and motivating while modeling company Operating Principles
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with Operations to drive safety improvements
- Participate in morning huddles and deliver safety tailgates or safety moments
- Conduct worksite observations to identify risks and compliance
- Provide feedback to Operations Leadership on safety matters
- Assist and interpret company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Train and coach employees on safe use of utility line clearance tools, technical skills, and safety-related processes
- Investigate and analyze incidents to facilitate learning
- Prepare evaluations and summary reports with recommendations for leadership
- Communicate safety program needs with regional leadership
- Report timely and accurately to Safety and Operations Regional Leadership
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
- Travel extensively to provide oversight during field visits with Safety Specialists, Operations Leadership, and field crews
