The Safety Manager Leader role within the Wood & Technical Services segment is a pivotal leadership position designed to ensure the highest levels of safety and compliance across numerous field operations. This position requires the successful candidate to manage safety programs, policies, procedures, training, and audits tailored specifically for electrical power and communications utility services. The role demands a collaborative approach, working closely with operations leadership, field management, and crews to develop and implement processes that promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

This unique role is specially intended for candidates residing in select Southeastern U.S. states including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The Safety Manager Leader will be responsible for leading a distributed workforce, including both qualified electrical and non-electrical workers, and will focus primarily on underground utility operations. This involves ensuring hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures are effectively applied and maintained. The leader must continuously monitor safety performance metrics, develop improvement plans, and guide operations personnel in meeting company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.

The ideal candidate brings at least three years of safety-related experience, five years’ experience within the utility, construction, or field service industries preferred, and possesses certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP). Detailed knowledge of OSHA regulations relevant to electric power and construction is essential. The role also involves regular travel, approximately 25 to 75 percent overnight nationwide, and requires the individual to be fully authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Regular on-site presence is a key part of the job, with responsibilities including conducting inspections, audits, and delivering constructive feedback to improve knowledge and safety behaviors. Subcontractor oversight, safety-related investigations, and participation in customer meetings are also critical duties. The Safety Manager Leader is integral in shaping safety culture through leadership, effective communication, mentoring, and developing engaging training programs.

This full-time position offers a competitive salary starting from $90,000 per year. The role is remote-based with frequent travel demands to various work sites and operational locations. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Ensure hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures are in place, monitored and effective
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and trends and develop plans to improve
  • Advise and mentor operations personnel on safety compliance
  • Review and comment on new service and project proposals for risks
  • Lead or participate in pre-project planning, safety training, and development
  • Conduct on-site safety observations, inspections, and provide feedback
  • Oversee subcontractor safety pre-qualification, orientation, and audits
  • Participate in safety incident investigations and corrective action development
