This is an intermediate-level position requiring a strategic and proactive professional to provide subject matter expertise and hands-on support for EHS initiatives across multiple sites. The employment type is typically full-time with salary commensurate with experience.\n\nThe Intermediate EHS Specialist will be responsible for overseeing key environmental, health, and safety programs including occupational health and safety compliance, environmental regulations, training initiatives, workers' compensation claims, transportation safety, contractor management, and business continuity efforts. One of the profile's main goals is to support site-level operations in identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies. The position involves collaboration with the field safety teams and EHS function leaders to implement and enhance a robust global EHS management system.\n\nKey responsibilities include executing injury prevention programs aimed at reducing risk and fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability. The specialist will conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses when workplace incidents occur, guiding supervisors and management in resolution and corrective action. In addition, this role manages compliance training programs by identifying gaps and ensuring all employees meet regulatory and Sysco policy requirements. Support for workers' compensation and general liability claim processes is another important aspect, with a focus on safe and early return-to-work strategies and accurate OSHA reporting.\n\nThe ideal candidate will be a self-driven professional, skilled in influencing leaders and stakeholders at all levels, with the capacity to clearly communicate complex EHS requirements in accessible language. They will have an analytical mindset to assess injury trends, data, and KPIs to recommend improvements. This role requires an individual with a solid understanding of EHS regulations and practices, who can adapt to changing organizational needs and lead safety culture initiatives that reduce risk and promote employee well-being. Travel of up to 50% is expected as the specialist will visit various Sysco facilities to support consistent EHS program implementation and compliance across locations. Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with major course work in EHS, risk management, safety, industrial, quality, environmental engineering or a closely related field
3+ years of EHS program management experience with large national or multi-national companies with multiple sites
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation or ability to acquire within 1 year
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards
Ability to travel up to 50% to Sysco facilities within the US
English language proficiency
Ability to sit, stand, drive, travel by air, walk, and use hands and fingers for computer and communication tasks for 8 hours per day
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with major course work in EHS, risk management, safety, industrial, quality, environmental engineering or a closely related field
3+ years of EHS program management experience with large national or multi-national companies with multiple sites
Strong background in and knowledge of federal, state, provincial, and local EHS requirements and industry standards/best practices
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to influence at all management levels
Understanding of culture building practices and strategy
Experience with injury prevention and root cause analysis
Ability to coordinate planning and collaboration with other business functions
Ability to analyze and independently resolve difficult situations and make timely decisions
Adaptability to initiate and manage organizational change.

Job Duties

Execute injury prevention programs and initiatives to motivate and influence the creation of a world class safety culture and minimize injury risk
Identify, assess, and control site-level hazards, including supporting supervisors and direct line leaders in the investigation of incidents and completion of detailed incident investigation reports with root cause analyses
Manage, deliver, and track compliance training programs as required by both regulatory agencies and Sysco policy
Identify gaps and opportunities for training compliance and delivery based on injury trends, KPIs, and risk assessments
Support the workers’ compensation claims process by completing OSHA determinations, identifying gaps in claims management, and promoting safe and early return to work as well as any other requirements related to general liability, motor vehicle, and property damage claims
Partner and collaborate with all functional leaders to influence and help manage EHS resources, projects, and business decisions
Provide input on the design of standardized safety systems, policies, training, campaigns and programs to reduce corporate and human capital risk, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
Support environmental compliance and claims programs (workers compensation, general liability, motor vehicle, property damage).
