The Construction Safety Manager role at M.C. Dean is a vital position responsible for ensuring strict safety standards and comprehensive risk management on construction projects. This role oversees multiple safety programs and develops site-specific project safety plans to foster a secure working environment. The Construction Safety Manager works closely with Project Management teams to implement and lead the Operational Risk Management (ORM) process, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and best practices. The position demands proactive leadership in safety training program creation, including OSHA 10, 30, CPR, and first-aid training, while continuously innovating training materials for enhanced employee engagement and effectiveness. The manager must also interpret and enforce major electrical safety codes and standards such as the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
An important aspect of the role is mentoring safety professionals within the organization and maintaining open communication channels about updates in safety protocols and training across diverse teams. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- 13 plus years of safety management experience
- experience developing and implementing training programs
- expertise in electrical safety standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC
- ability to mentor safety professionals
- strong communication skills
- willingness to stay current with safety regulatory requirements
- proficiency with safety management system standards ANSI-Z10, OHSAS 18001, ISO 31000
- physical ability to work in a construction environment including extended sitting and computer use
- ability to understand and communicate complex safety information effectively
- OSHA 500/502 training or equivalent
- ability to design and deliver hands-on safety training
- ability to participate in meetings and advise on risk mitigation strategies
Job Qualifications
- 13 plus years of safety management experience emphasizing training program development with high school diploma or GED
- 7 plus years of experience with Bachelor’s degree in safety management discipline, electrical experience preferred
- 5 plus years of experience with Master’s degree
- experience conducting safety and health training
- expertise in regulatory compliance including 1910, 1926, EM-385
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- knowledge of safety management systems such as ANSI-Z10, OHSAS 18001, ISO 31000
- training designation OSHA 500/502
- occupational safety degree from ABET accredited program
- Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
- willingness to pursue Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- certified electrical safety compliance professional (CESCP)
- previous electrical, construction, industrial, federal and commercial safety and health experience
Job Duties
- Create, develop, and implement safety training plans and curriculums
- conduct new hire orientation including OSHA 10, 30 and CPR/FA training
- redesign training material, programs, and employee experience in hands-on training
- understand and interpret electrical safety standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, and NESC
- oversee and manage the NFPA 70E training program
- monitor and measure effectiveness of training programs
- mentor safety professionals and communicate updates to safety training material across the organization
- participate in meetings with customers, project teams, contractors/subcontractors to advise on risk and hazard mitigation plans
- collaborate with Project Management to implement and lead the Operational Risk Management process
- remain current with all regulatory, operational, and technical safety management and training matters
