The Safety Manager role at ACCO is pivotal in sustaining the company’s reputation as a safe, compliant, and responsible organization. This exempt, full-time position is typically Monday through Friday, aligning with work-site hours and including a one-hour meal break and two rest breaks, though flexibility is possible based on business needs. The role requires travel between various job sites. The Safety Manager’s primary responsibility is to cultivate a robust safety culture while ensuring full regulatory compliance with relevant labor laws, OSHA standards, and environmental health and safety regulations. This role involves overseeing the development, implementation, and auditing of safety policies, managing support services for safety staff, and leading safety professionals to maintain high standards across all operations. The manager acts as the company’s primary safety contact for employees, management, and clients, providing expert technical guidance, facilitating safety communication, and advising leadership on injury and illness prevention strategies.
Key duties include leading and mentoring safety staff, recruiting and developing a collaborative safety team, conducting job site hazard analyses, managing safety inspections and audits, and ensuring accurate safety record-keeping. The Safety Manager also investigates safety incidents, analyzes trends, and prepares detailed reports with corrective and preventive actions. They develop site-specific safety plans that comply with customer requirements and ensure field adherence to these protocols. The role demands proactive strategies to control exposure to hazards, prompt correction of unsafe conditions, and building strong relationships with internal teams, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies. The Safety Manager facilitates safety training programs, emergency preparedness planning, and incident response coordination. They contribute technically by selecting appropriate safety equipment and ensuring proper use of personal protective gear. Job Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in construction, maintenance, safety, or operations
- minimum 5 years of safety management experience
- valid driver's license meeting company requirements
- ability to identify safety-related exposures and propose corrective actions
- ability to work in dynamic and fast-paced environments with flexible reprioritization
- ability to take direction and follow through with commitments
- ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- physical ability to work at heights, stand, walk, climb stairs or ladders, and inspect equipment
- ability to work in varying climate conditions including heat and cold
- ability to move or transport equipment up to 25 lbs
- specific vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision and focus adjustments
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- CHST or CSP certification required, SMP certification preferred
