Job Description

Baker Construction is the nation's leading specialty concrete contractor known for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and safety in the construction sector. With a robust reputation for delivering high-quality and durable concrete structures, Baker Construction has built a strong presence across the United States, working on projects ranging from commercial buildings to infrastructure enhancements. The company prides itself on its core values of People, Honor, and Grit, which not only guide its project management and operational strategies but also foster a supportive and dynamic workplace culture. Baker Construction invests significantly in the professional development of its employees, offering substantial opportunities for growth, leadership, and career advancement, all while emphasizing a safety-first approach.

This particular opportunity is with Baker Water, a division of Baker Construction that specializes in building critical water infrastructure nationwide. Baker Water functions as a general contractor, leading teams and trades to execute complex, essential water projects that span the full life cycle of a construction project. This division is dedicated to ensuring that water infrastructure development meets the highest standards, delivering long-term value to communities.

The role of Safety, Health and Environment Manager at Baker Water is integral to sustaining the company’s Incident and Injury-Free (IIF) culture, which underscores the commitment that every co-worker returns home safely each day. This is a predominantly field-based role, requiring the manager to spend at least 90 percent of their time on-site, actively engaging with crews to observe, coach, and enforce safe work practices. The position demands a hands-on, proactive approach, with the manager providing leadership not only to workers on the ground but also to Field Safety Representatives. By embedding themselves within the operations team, the manager plays a key role in driving continuous improvements across safety, quality, and productivity metrics.

As a Safety, Health and Environment Manager, individuals will be responsible for supporting compliance with regulatory and company safety standards, conducting thorough incident investigations, and managing the case reporting process associated with job site accidents or injuries. They will foster a culture of visible safety leadership, mentoring field personnel, and correcting unsafe conditions or behaviors to mitigate risks. The role is also deeply involved in training and development, aiding in the delivery and support of safety certifications and ongoing educational programs to enhance field staff capabilities.

Working at Baker Construction offers competitive pay and excellent benefits, alongside career advancement opportunities in a supportive environment where ambition and initiative are truly valued. The company places a premium on creating impact — not just in the structures built but in the lives of its people and communities. Joining the team means being part of an organization that honors its commitments, promotes safety as a priority, and cultivates grit to achieve greatness. For candidates with a passion for safety and construction, this role offers a chance to define their career on their own terms while contributing to critical nationwide infrastructure projects.
