The role of Assistant Manager, Safety at Honda is crucial in steering the company’s safety standards towards excellence. The Assistant Manager, Safety plays an instrumental role in interpreting and enforcing Honda’s Safety Management manual and related policies, while simultaneously mentoring team members to foster professional growth and technical expertise.

Working within a collaborative and fast-paced environment, the Assistant Manager oversees complex safety projects and daily operations. Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, occupational safety and health, or equivalent
Eight plus years of safety experience or equivalent Honda manufacturing experience
Professional certification such as Advanced Safety Certificate, Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician, Certified Safety Professional, or Safety Management Specialist
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Excellent planning and prioritization abilities
Advanced skills in data analysis and problem solving
Knowledge of business plan, budgeting, and cost management
Experience in root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or other ABET-certified safety and health program or equivalent related experience
Achievement of professional certification such as Advanced Safety Certificate, Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician, Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist
Interpersonal relationship skills
Detailed understanding of major health and safety regulations and injury/illness prevention strategies
Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
Verbal and written communication skills
Experience using Microsoft Office products
Strong planning and prioritization skills
Advanced data analysis and problem-solving skills
Complex understanding of business plan, budgeting, and cost reporting
Expertise with root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures

Job Duties

Lead Plant Safety themes and complex improvement projects
Manage the daily operations of a team of Safety Professionals and mentor direct reports
Foster the technical expertise and professional skills of direct reports
Leverage Safety expertise to proactively cycle PDCA to reduce injuries and hazards and ensure continuous improvement of safety characteristics
Accurately interpret and apply the Honda Safety Management manual including NA and HDMA policies and procedures
Participate in PDCA of policies and procedures based on technical expertise
Perform and document complex safety compliance activities including risk assessments, ergonomic studies, and process and equipment innovation
Present and report safety activities and results including complex data analysis and trending
Develop personal technical expertise and professional skills
