Job Description
MV Transportation is a premier provider of transportation services across North America, specializing in transit and paratransit operations. Known for its commitment to safety, innovation, and customer service, MV Transportation partners with public and private sector clients to deliver efficient, safe, and reliable transportation solutions. The company prides itself on fostering a strong culture of safety and compliance, aligning operational excellence with regulatory requirements and client expectations. MV Transportation focuses on empowering its workforce through continuous training, technology adoption, and leadership development, making it a leading employer in the transit industry.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety and Training Manager to join our team. This hands-on management role is crucial in implementing safety programs and training procedures that comply with State and Federal regulations, as well as corporate and client policies. The Safety and Training Manager will be responsible for leading OSHA and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) compliance efforts at the division level. This position requires a proactive leader who can set the tone for a safety-first culture, ensuring that all operators meet current training requirements and that all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices remain updated to meet the evolving needs of our operating divisions.
The successful candidate will serve as an expert in regulations governing environmental protection, occupational safety, and driver qualifications, facilitating the adherence to EPA, OSHA, and CDL standards. A key aspect of this role involves verifying that all new hires meet minimum qualification standards, including background and DMV checks, and monitoring the effective use of safety technology tools. They will analyze trend data and develop strategic plans to reduce safety incidents and promote a culture of prevention across all locations and departments. The manager will also oversee safety incentive programs, ensuring that safety points are awarded consistently and fairly, reinforcing a culture where safety is a shared responsibility.
Collaboration with corporate claims staff to manage liability and worker's compensation claims is another critical component, focusing on reducing financial risks and maximizing recovery on subrogatable claims. This role requires effective coordination with local medical facilities to facilitate the early return of injured employees to light-duty and full-duty work assignments, minimizing downtime and supporting employee health. The manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful completion of safety audits by corporate, client, and regulatory agencies. Additionally, leadership will extend to the training organization, overseeing both classroom and practical behind-the-wheel instruction tailored to corporate and client specifications.
Ideal candidates will possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience in transit or transportation safety, safety management, or system safety engineering, with demonstrated supervisory experience. A Bachelor’s degree or five plus years of relevant management experience is required, with preference given to those holding Certified Director of Safety (CDS) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certifications. Knowledge of federal and state transportation safety regulations, including FTA, FMCSA, and DOT guidelines, is essential. Candidates should be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, have strong analytical and organizational skills, and be capable of working independently while effectively managing staff and departmental functions. Experience with HASTUS scheduling software is preferred but not mandatory.
MV Transportation is committed to equal employment opportunity and actively promotes a diverse and inclusive workforce. Applicants must be prepared to undergo a pre-employment drug test and background check where permissible by law. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the safety and success of a leading transportation organization and drive continuous improvement in transit safety practices.
