City Market Co-Op is a community-owned cooperative grocery store dedicated to providing a wide variety of local, organic, and conventional products at fair prices. The role of Rounder in the Prepared Foods Department is essential to supporting the day-to-day food production operations across all City Market locations. The position specifically focuses on helping create delicious meals aligned with daily production plans, ensuring quality, freshness, and appealing presentation. The Rounder is expected to assist with a variety of tasks including food preparation, stocking, cleaning stations, managing inventory rotation, and supporting product receiving and storage. This role requires flexibility and collaboration, as duties may vary and involve coordination with multiple departments to guarantee timely and consistent product availability. The position is non-exempt, falls under union representation (UE Local 203, Grade 5), and offers a starting wage of $19.06 per hour.
Ideal candidates for this role will exhibit a strong interest in local food systems and sustainability initiatives, a commitment to food safety, and the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization. Experience as a line cook or sous chef, along with knowledge of food labeling, handling, and preparation techniques, will be highly beneficial. Certification such as ServSafe is preferred, and a culinary education background is a plus though not mandatory. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of line cook, sous chef or chef experience or two years of kitchen experience required
- Ability to follow established procedures and safety guidelines
- Physical ability to perform tasks including lifting and standing for extended periods
- Flexibility to work varied shifts and weekends
- ServSafe certification preferred
- Effective communication skills
- Commitment to teamwork and customer service
Job Qualifications
- One year of line cook, sous chef or chef experience or two years of kitchen required

- Knowledge of natural and conventional foods and the food industry helpful
Job Duties
- Assisting in preparation, stocking and cleaning of all food display and production stations
- ensuring products are labeled and rotated in all food storage and refrigerated areas
- gathering ingredients from storage or from other departments as necessary
- assisting with receiving and stocking new products when needed
- ensuring that finished products are tasty, fresh and attractive
- compliance with established City Market procedures and practices regarding operations, sales, safety, and security
- may be required to perform other related duties as assigned
