Job Description

FedEx Freight, Inc. is a leading American freight shipping services company operating as part of the FedEx family of companies. Known for its reliable and efficient freight delivery solutions, FedEx Freight specializes in less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services across the United States. As a major player in the logistics and transportation industry, FedEx Freight focuses on providing seamless supply chain solutions that help businesses move their goods securely and on time. The company emphasizes safety, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence to maintain its status as a trusted partner in the freight transportation sector.

FedEx Freight is currently hiring for the position of Tractor-Trailer Driver, offering a starting pay rate of $0.8290 per mile for linehaul duties and $36.18 per hour for non-linehaul duties. This in-person role requires dedicated drivers who are committed to ensuring the timely and safe transportation of freight between service centers and turn-point locations. The position primarily involves operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, and demands a high level of responsibility in compliance with industry regulations and company policies.

In this role, drivers will be tasked with various essential functions such as performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections on their equipment to ensure operational integrity and safety compliance. They are responsible for hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies from tractors and trailers efficiently, maintaining accurate daily logs, and verifying all required documentation and reports. The position requires strict adherence to hazardous material regulations and procedural guidelines. Communication with dispatch is also crucial for successful coordination, with drivers expected to report delays, arrivals, and any equipment issues in a timely manner.

Furthermore, this role may involve physically demanding tasks such as chaining tires on vehicles, loading and unloading freight, and occasionally can require the driver to perform duties of a city driver or dock employee when operational needs arise. The working environment involves long-distance driving during day and night hours under various weather conditions and road types, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and potential hazardous materials according to Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.

Successful candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the necessary endorsements for double/triple trailers, hazardous materials, and tank vehicles. Automatic transmission CDL restrictions are permitted. Candidates should have at least one year of driving experience within the last three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. A clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations are mandatory.

In addition, drivers in specific states where long combination vehicles (LCVs) such as triple trailers and Rocky Mountain doubles are operated must meet the LCV Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards. Basic written and verbal communication skills are essential to handle documentation and communicate effectively with peers and supervisors. Physical fitness is required to handle the lifting and maneuvering of equipment and to endure extended periods of sitting, bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing in and out of trucks.

FedEx Freight values initiative, motivation, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. The company provides a supportive and inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. Drivers must also be able to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 120 days of job offer acceptance. Overnight stays and varying work hours due to operational needs are to be expected in this dynamic role.
