Job Description

The RN Expeditor role is a vital position within a healthcare system focused on enhancing patient care efficiency and safety. This position exists within a hospital or healthcare facility environment where patient throughput, clinical coordination, and discharge planning are critical to maintaining optimal operational flow and ensuring quality patient outcomes. The organization is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services by leveraging experienced nursing staff and innovative care management practices.

The RN Expeditor utilizes their clinical expertise and knowledge of healthcare systems to facilitate a smooth, timely patient journey through various hospital departments. By proactively identifying obstacles to care and discharge, this RN helps eliminate delays and accelerates access to necessary treatments. This role requires a professional who is adept at real-time problem solving and communication across multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring that workflow bottlenecks are minimized and patient experience is maximized.

This position specifically requires the RN to synchronize care activities, mediate clinical issues as they arise, and coordinate among teams to handle complex discharge scenarios and conditional discharge orders. The RN Expeditor serves as a critical catalyst for continuous improvement in patient care processes. This involves maintaining situational awareness through constant communication and the use of technology resources to monitor patient status and departmental throughput.

Ideal candidates will bring at least five years of clinical nursing experience and at least three years in an expeditor or related role, ideally within emergency, PCU/ICU, procedural areas like PACU, short stay units, or endoscopy departments. The required educational background is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and candidates must hold appropriate licensure to practice nursing in North Carolina or a Compact state, along with current BLS certification.

The role emphasizes a responsible and proactive approach to nursing care coordination. The RN Expeditor is instrumental in driving improvements to speed patient recovery timelines, reduce hospital length of stay, and enhance safety during discharge planning. By working closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, this role ensures patients receive timely interventions and support services, facilitating their recovery and transition out of the hospital setting.

This is a full-time nursing position earning a competitive salary suitable for experienced RNs skilled in complex care coordination and patient flow optimization. The RN Expeditor position offers excellent opportunities for professional development in a dynamic healthcare environment that values leadership in patient care management and operational efficiency.
