Job Description

The emergency department (ED) of a hospital serves as a critical point of care, addressing urgent medical needs with efficiency, expertise, and compassion. This department relies heavily on strong leadership to maintain a seamless operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends, holidays, and evening or night shifts—as emergencies do not adhere to standard business hours. To uphold the highest standards of care, the hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator to support the Nurse Manager and Director by providing shift leadership and operational oversight for the Emergency Department.

This hospital is a reputable healthcare provider committed to delivering quality, patient-centered care. It operates in a dynamic and demanding environment where nursing staff must demonstrate both clinical excellence and effective leadership. The RN Coordinator role is vital in ensuring smooth daily operations, fostering a collaborative team environment, and maintaining compliance with hospital policies. This role demands a professional who excels in critical thinking, creativity, resource management, and personnel development.

The RN Coordinator will serve as a cornerstone for the ED, providing structural support and guidance to a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Their responsibilities extend beyond clinical care, involving coaching, mentoring, and leadership to ensure that all team members provide age-appropriate, high-quality care to patients and their families. In addition to clinical expertise, this role requires an ability to manage resources efficiently, balancing staffing and patient needs, especially during peak times or when staffing challenges arise.

Flexibility is key, as the coordinator must cover various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, ensuring continuous leadership presence. The RN Coordinator is also instrumental in driving positive employee relations and fostering a work environment that embraces change and innovation. Their role includes active participation in staff development, including performance evaluations and scheduling, working closely with the Nurse Manager and Director to optimize workflow and patient throughput.

In essence, this position blends clinical leadership with operational management. The RN Coordinator acts as an extension of the Nurse Manager/Director, representing them when necessary and providing expert clinical support during staffing shortages. The role is ideal for an experienced registered nurse with a passion for leadership, a solid understanding of emergency care, and a commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork.

By taking on this role, the RN Coordinator contributes directly to the delivery of timely, efficient, and compassionate care, helping the Emergency Department meet its goals for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. This position is a unique opportunity for an RN who aspires to impact both patient outcomes and the professional development of the nursing team in a fast-paced acute care environment.
