Job Description
The Michaels Companies Inc. is a renowned leader in the arts and crafts retail industry, operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as robust e-commerce platforms at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown into the premier destination for crafting, creativity, and celebration supplies that inspire and enhance the creative journeys of hobbyists and professionals alike. Additionally, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, further expanding its footprint in the creative retail market. Known for its commitment to fostering creativity and providing exceptional customer experiences, Michaels emphasizes innovation, community engagement, and quality products, making it the best place for all things creative.
Within this thriving and dynamic environment, the role of Event Coordinator is pivotal in enhancing customer engagement and delivering memorable experiences. As an Event Coordinator in a Michaels store located in Madison-Middleton, WI, you will play an instrumental role in planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. Your mission is to create an enjoyable, stress-free, and enriching environment that captivates guests of all ages, ranging from young children to seniors. This role requires a blend of creativity, organizational expertise, customer service proficiency, and operational capability to meet Michaels’ high standards and brand promises.
The job entails direct interaction with customers to provide friendly and knowledgeable shopping assistance, ensuring they find what they need effortlessly. Moreover, you will be responsible for delivering a swift and pleasant checkout experience. Your operational responsibilities will include tasks such as unloading delivery trucks, merchandising duties, and maintaining the overall store appearance aligning with company recovery standards. These varied tasks contribute significantly to the seamless day-to-day functioning of the store and the overall customer satisfaction.
Specializing in event coordination, your duties will involve managing multiple events simultaneously, including overseeing the setup, facilitation, and breakdown of events. You will engage creatively with attendees, demonstrating and instructing on craft projects, administering party add-ons such as balloons and goody bags, and ensuring client expectations are met or exceeded. Completing administrative responsibilities such as communication with clients, handling emails and phone inquiries, preparing necessary paperwork and adjusting events based on client feedback are crucial components of this role. Proactive contingency planning will also be vital to ensure events proceed smoothly despite unforeseen challenges.
Furthermore, the position emphasizes the importance of upholding safety and cleanliness standards before, during, and after events, reinforcing Michaels’ commitment to a safe and welcoming environment for all guests and team members. The role also includes involvement in store operations beyond event coordination such as promoting the Rewards program, supporting Private Label Credit Card enrollments, assisting with omni-channel processes like Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), and cross-training in custom framing sales and production. This multifaceted approach not only enhances the customer experience but contributes to the store’s overall success.
Candidates for this role should bring an energetic and enthusiastic personality, excellent people skills, the ability to handle job stress, and experience working with children and children’s events. Good communication, organizational, interpersonal, and creative problem-solving skills are essential to thrive in this fast-paced retail environment. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, move around the store, perform regular bending, lifting, and reach high shelves using ladders or similar equipment. Michaels is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals to support their job performance within an inclusive and diverse workplace.
Michaels values their Team Members’ wellbeing by offering robust benefits packages that cover health insurance options like medical, dental, and vision, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a company that is not only focused on creative expression but also on providing a work environment that supports personal and professional growth. Michaels is an equal opportunity employer fostering inclusion and diversity, ensuring all qualified individuals have equal access to employment opportunities and resources.
