The company prides itself on its team of energetic and sports-minded individuals who bring enthusiasm and knowledge to the shopping experience, supporting a welcoming environment that encourages customers to pursue their athletic and outdoor passions.
Big 5 Sporting Goods operates as a specialty retail store focusing on sporting products that range from apparel and footwear to sporting equipment and accessories. It emphasizes customer service and expert guidance to help customers make the right choices for their sports and outdoor needs. Each local store is committed to being a friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable resource in its community, assuring customers of a positive and helpful shopping experience.
The role of a Cashier at Big 5 Sporting Goods is critical to sustaining the store’s reputation for excellent customer service. Cashiers are the frontline staff responsible for managing the checkout process with accuracy and efficiency, contributing directly to customer satisfaction. This position involves operating the front counter point-of-sale (POS) system, handling cash and card transactions, and ensuring a seamless flow at the checkout counter. Beyond just processing purchases, cashiers engage customers by offering recommendations, suggesting add-on sales, and managing customer inquiries either in person or by phone.
The Cashier role requires a detail-oriented individual who can maintain organization and cleanliness on the sales floor and assist with tasks such as receiving merchandise shipments. It also involves active communication with sales associates and management, using a PA system to direct activities and ensure the store operates smoothly. Candidates who enjoy working in a fast-paced retail environment and have a basic understanding or interest in sporting goods will find this position rewarding.
Pay for this hourly position ranges from $16.90 to $17.50, reflecting the company’s commitment to fair compensation. Furthermore, Big 5 Sporting Goods offers numerous benefits such as flexible scheduling, employee merchandise discounts, paid sick leave, and opportunities to participate in 401k and health insurance plans, with eligibility based on hours worked. This employment opportunity is excellent for those passionate about sports and customer service, and who are seeking to join a supportive team with a long-standing presence in the retail sporting goods industry.
