Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved American fast-food restaurant chain, renowned for its distinctive burgers that have been a staple since its founding in 1950. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, Whataburger prides itself on a rich tradition of quality food, exceptional customer service, and a welcoming atmosphere. The company is known for its commitment to its employees, referred to as Family Members, and the community it serves. With a strong emphasis on leadership development and team collaboration, Whataburger offers more than just a meal; it offers a place where careers can flourish and individuals can grow both personally and professionally.

The role of a Shift Leader at Whataburger is pivotal to the restaurant’s daily success and operational efficiency. As a Shift Leader, you become the driving force that keeps the restaurant functioning seamlessly throughout each shift. This position involves leading a team, maintaining high standards for quality, service, and cleanliness, and ensuring that operations run smoothly during busy periods. As a Shift Leader, you will be tasked with coaching and developing Family Members, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment, and supporting the restaurant’s financial goals such as controlling food and labor costs.

Whataburger offers a competitive weekly pay structure along with flexible scheduling options including day, night, evening, and overnight shifts. Benefits include paid time off, 401(k) matching up to 4%, competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, disability benefits, and comprehensive educational support that features free English language learning, college-level courses at no cost, and reduced tuition degree programs. The company also provides benefits such as discounted meals, wireless service, computer and software discounts, fitness or gym discounts, and rewards programs to recognize employees’ contributions. This role also provides a clear career pathway with potential for advancement to higher management levels, including the opportunity for Operating Partners to earn six-figure incomes.

In this leadership role, you will train and motivate new and experienced staff alike, ensuring that all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards are met or exceeded. Shift Leaders partner closely with Restaurant Managers to refine leadership capabilities, manage shift operations, and handle challenges with confidence and creativity. The position is home-based within your assigned restaurant but occasionally requires support at other locations or participation in leadership and business development meetings. Whataburger values diversity and inclusivity, offering equal employment opportunities regardless of race, gender, or other protected characteristics, and participates in the federal E-Verify Program to confirm employment eligibility.

Joining Whataburger as a Shift Leader means becoming part of a dynamic, supportive culture where your growth is nurtured and your impact is recognized. Whether you are aiming to build a long-term career or seeking skills to advance into management, Whataburger provides the tools, support, and environment to help you succeed and Move Forward Boldly.
