Job Description

Whataburger is a beloved fast-food restaurant chain that has been serving up delicious burgers and exceptional customer experiences since 1950. Known for its commitment to quality, community, and its distinctive orange-and-white striped aesthetic, Whataburger has grown from a single location to a celebrated brand with a loyal customer base across various regions. The company prides itself on fostering a family-oriented work environment where employees are valued as key ingredients to their continued success. With a strong focus on leadership development, career growth, and operational excellence, Whataburger offers a unique opportunity for individuals to advance their careers within a vibrant and supportive organization. The company’s dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures an equitable workplace for all employees, reflecting its commitment to respect and integrity.

The Shift Leader role at Whataburger is a critical position that drives the heartbeat of the restaurant’s daily operations. Positioned as the spark that keeps every shift running smoothly, the Shift Leader is responsible for ensuring quality, service, and cleanliness standards are consistently met while fostering a positive and productive work environment. This leadership role goes beyond managing day-to-day tasks — it focuses on coaching and mentoring Family Members, helping new hires integrate quickly and seasoned employees sharpen their skills and increase confidence. The Shift Leader works closely with the Restaurant Manager team, collaboratively strengthening operational foundations and developing shift management capabilities.

Compensation for this role is competitive, featuring weekly pay with flexible schedules that accommodate day, night, evening, and overnight shifts. Additional perks include paid time off, 401(k) matching, and a comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits package. Whataburger also offers short-term and long-term disability benefits alongside opportunities for career development with a clear path to a six-figure income, supported by a culture that recognizes and rewards contributions through awards and recognition programs. Educative supports such as free English language learning, no-cost college-level courses, and tuition-reduced degree pathways reflect Whataburger’s investment in employee growth.

Beyond responsibilities, the role requires maintaining food safety and workplace safety standards, managing costs related to food and labor, and fostering teamwork and accountability. The Shift Leader acts as a cultural ambassador who energizes the team during busy periods and navigates challenges by turning them into opportunities for improvement and success. This is a dynamic position for individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and aspire to develop their leadership skills while being part of a company that values its people and their career aspirations. By joining Whataburger as a Shift Leader, you’ll become part of a family-oriented company that believes everyone has the potential to make a significant impact and grow boldly in their career.
