The Flying Mexican is a vibrant, luchador-themed restaurant and lounge located in Washington, DC, specifically on Barracks Row. Known for its fearless fusion of authentic Mexican cuisine, crispy hand-breaded wings, and carefully crafted signature cocktails, The Flying Mexican offers more than just meals—it delivers an energetic and unforgettable dining experience. As The Flying Mexican prepares to expand by opening two new locations, the company is looking for a passionate and hands-on Restaurant Manager. This is a unique leadership role that moves beyond traditional management. The successful candidate will immerse themselves fully in both front of house (FOH) and back of house (BOH) operations, learning the intricacies of the business from every angle. The Restaurant Manager position is for a full-time commitment, with compensation competitive and tailored to the candidate's experience. Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2-3 years of restaurant management experience
- ServSafe Manager certification
- Local alcohol manager certification (ABRA) or willingness to obtain quickly
- Experience in both FOH and BOH operations
- Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and team-building skills
- Financial literacy in managing P&L and cost controls
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-3 years of restaurant management experience with proven, hands-on competency in both FOH leadership and BOH/kitchen operations
- Experience working in a high-volume restaurant, bar, or rooftop/patio setting
- Strong desire to step into a General Manager role with adaptability and resilience
- Lead-by-example management style
- Basic understanding of restaurant P&L components, labor matrixes, and food/beverage cost controls
- ServSafe Manager certification
- Local alcohol manager certification (ABRA) required or willingness to obtain quickly
Job Duties
- Lead, coach, and motivate the service and bar teams to deliver high-energy, exceptional guest experiences
- Manage floor flow, host stands, and guest relations during high-volume rooftop and patio shifts
- Work closely with the kitchen team to maintain strict food safety, cleanliness, and prep standards
- Step onto the line when necessary to support ticket times, portion control, and plate presentation
- Assist in managing food, beverage, and labor costs
- Conduct inventory audits and manage ordering
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and train a high-performing team
- Foster a collaborative environment where BOH and FOH operate as one cohesive unit
- Participate in strategic planning for new locations
