The restaurant's seasonal cuisine draws inspiration from the rich culinary traditions of Italy, France, and Northern California, offering guests a unique and heartfelt dining experience that blends timeless flavors with modern techniques. Union Square Cafe has received numerous accolades, including five James Beard Awards and an unprecedented nine-time ranking as New York's Most Popular Restaurant by Zagat Survey. In 2019, the restaurant relocated to a new space on 19th Street, designed by the Rockwell Group to maintain its signature charm and intimacy while introducing a fresh, contemporary ambiance.

The Restaurant Manager role at Union Square Cafe is vital to maintaining the establishment's high standards and fostering a positive, high-performing team culture. This position involves working closely with leadership and management teams to communicate standards and practices that ensure excellent service and a fulfilling work environment. The Restaurant Manager supports and educates the service team, ensuring that each guest experiences outstanding hospitality. Responsibilities include overseeing the cleanliness and organization of the dining room, managing inventory, collaborating with kitchen and beverage teams, and ensuring compliance with health, labor, and payroll regulations. The manager also plays a key role in employee development, accountability, and recruitment, driving the growth and success of the restaurant.

This is a full-time position offering an annual compensation range of $70,000 to $75,000, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus. Job Requirements

  • minimum 2 years dining room experience in hospitality and fine dining
  • management experience preferred
  • excellent knowledge of food and beverage
  • strong passion and skills in education
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • bachelor's degree or certification in hospitality-related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • fluency in English, Spanish preferred

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years dining room experience in hospitality and fine dining, management experience preferred
  • excellent food and beverage knowledge
  • strong passion and skill in education
  • excellent verbal and written communication
  • understanding of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • preferred bachelor's degree or certification in a hospitality-related field or equivalent expertise

Job Duties

  • Cultivate a culture of enlightened hospitality for all stakeholders that supports business objectives and growth
  • maintain excellence and cleanliness of the dining room, ensuring appropriate physical inventory is always available and staff are acquainted with cycle of service guidelines
  • maintain positive working relationships with kitchen leaders and line staff during service periods, ensuring effective communication
  • provide continuous support to service staff and actively participate in the cycle of service as needed
  • work with beverage management to conduct, reconcile, and submit month end beverage inventory
  • remain current and compliant with HR practices and policies, holding employees accountable and managing disciplinary procedures as necessary
  • ensure accurate and timely completion of payroll processes according to business and accounting procedures
  • ensure Department of Labor and Health Department compliance for operations
  • provide feedback and guidance focused on excellence and hospitality, ensuring pathways for team growth and development
  • consistently seek internal and external opportunities to build and grow the team
