Bastia is a distinguished Sardinian and Corsican restaurant located in the vibrant Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The restaurant operates within the elegant setting of Hotel Anna & Bel, a 50-room property housed in the historic former Penn Home building. Notably, Hotel Anna & Bel is Fishtown's only Michelin Key Hotel, reflecting its commitment to exceptional standards and a unique guest experience. Both the hotel and Bastia restaurant opened their doors in August 2024, quickly establishing a reputation for culinary excellence and outstanding hospitality. Bastia has received widespread acclaim, including a prestigious 4-star rating from Jason Sheehan of Philadelphia Magazine, and widespread recognition in national publications such as the Wall Street Journal. The establishment emphasizes delivering a superior dining experience centered on the rich traditions and flavors of Sardinian and Corsican cuisine.

The role of General Manager at Bastia is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the entire Food and Beverage operations across all outlets on the property, including Bastia and the sister restaurant Caletta. The General Manager ensures the delivery of high-quality products and first-class service while maintaining rigorous health and safety standards in full compliance with federal and state regulations. This position demands strong training, support, and resource allocation to the restaurant and event staff, with close collaboration with the Executive Chef on key operational elements such as volume forecasting, event scheduling, and menu planning.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years’ related work experience required
  • management or previous supervisory experience preferred
  • college degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Serve-Safe certification
  • RAMP certification

Job Duties

  • Supervise restaurant, bar, event/catering facilities on property
  • develop programs, menus, promotions and advertising to enhance sales, increase revenues, and drive guests to restaurant/outlets
  • communicate with sales department to facilitate effective and professional delivery of all events/meetings contracts
  • support all food & beverage employees
  • must be able to perform responsibilities of all positions should unexpected volume or training be required
  • prepare work schedules in accordance with forecasts, staffing guidelines and labor productivity goals
  • anticipate and recommend capital expenditures
  • assure all food and beverage servers are properly trained in local and state beverage service laws and comply with beverage service policies and procedures
  • responsible for financial performance and goals as presented by ownership
  • enforce hotel’s cash handling policies and procedures
  • coordinate restaurant supply purchases
  • monitor and maintain inventory of supplies to prevent shortages
  • participate/coordinate/produce all food and beverage departmental month-end inventories
  • participate in the daily operation of Bastia, Caletta, and pool service (seasonal)
  • manage guest feedback and respond to all online reviews in a timely manner
  • maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation at all times
  • assist GM and kitchen management by controlling costs i.e. limit waste, breakage, theft and minimize comps
  • conduct price shopping, labor management
