Job Description

Union Square Apartments, located at 308 W. Union Street in Medina, Ohio, is a residential community dedicated to providing safe, supportive, and stable housing for low-income individuals, families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. The apartments are part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents through access to community resources, supportive services, and social programming that promotes independence and fosters a strong sense of community. Known for its commitment to resident well-being and service coordination, Union Square Apartments operates with a focus on dignity, respect, and empowerment for all residents.

The Resident Service Coordinator role at Union Square Apartments is a part-time position requiring approximately 14 hours each week, with an hourly pay range of $15 to $17 depending on experience. The primary purpose of this role is to identify and address diverse social, emotional, employment, education, and medical needs of residents both individually and as groups. This involves connecting residents to a variety of community services, developing support networks, and organizing community-building activities that enhance cohesion within the population.

As a Resident Service Coordinator, you will play a vital role in promoting housing stability and enhancing self-sufficiency among residents. You will conduct thorough assessments to understand the goals, interests, and needs of each resident, then create and maintain a comprehensive directory of local social service agencies. This network will facilitate access to critical resources such as health and dental care, employment opportunities, educational programs, and recreational activities that fulfill residents' needs in a holistic manner.

Professionalism and confidentiality are key components of this role, as you will handle sensitive information and sometimes advocate on behalf of residents in ways that require discretion and empathy. You will also have a hand in community-building initiatives, organizing resident associations, newsletters, welcoming committees, orientation packages, support groups, and various social programming to improve the living environment and foster connections among residents.

Another important aspect of the role is outreach and advocacy. You will work to raise awareness among local service providers about the specific needs of housing community residents and help develop partnerships that facilitate better access to needed services. This includes making referrals to case management for residents facing health or safety challenges, helping residents navigate the fair hearing process when services are denied, and assisting with marketing the property through community networking.

Record keeping and administrative responsibilities are also essential, including documenting resident interactions, tracking referral outcomes, and compiling reports on service delivery and resident satisfaction. You will also need to be familiar with housing policies, tenant rights, lease agreements, and rules surrounding reasonable accommodations to support residents effectively.

This position requires a unique blend of skills, including a deep understanding of community support services, advocacy experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and proficiency with computer tools such as Microsoft Office and databases. Successful candidates will be able to build trust quickly, listen empathetically, and empower residents while inspiring greater participation in community life. This role is perfect for compassionate, organized, and proactive individuals seeking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents in a residential housing community setting.
