The Resident Chef role at Sur La Table is a pivotal position that contributes significantly to the success and reputation of each store. As a Resident Chef, you will lead high-performing culinary teams that inspire customers at every stage of their culinary journey. In addition to the direct impact on customer experiences through classes and product knowledge, the Resident Chef plays a strategic role in driving business growth. You will develop and implement initiatives to enhance both the culinary and retail operations of the store. This includes analyzing daily sales metrics to optimize performance and consistently meeting or exceeding key performance indicators (KPIs) such as class sign-ups, product sales, and customer feedback scores. Moreover, the role involves operational responsibilities, including maintaining compliance with food safety regulations, managing inventory, and ensuring a clean and safe store environment.

Job Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Culinary degree strongly preferred
- 1-2 years experience as a culinary instructor
- 3-4 years kitchen management experience
- Valid Food Manager Certification
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to stand for up to 5 hours
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Ability to work in variable kitchen environments
- Ability to operate POS and computer systems
Job Qualifications
- Culinary degree strongly preferred
- 1-2 years of experience as a culinary instructor
- 3-4 years of progressively responsible kitchen management experience
- Valid Food Manager Certification
- Proven track record of achieving sales and motivating teams
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- Passion for community engagement and customer experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and retail systems preferred
- Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment
Job Duties
- Recruit, mentor and retain a high-performing culinary and retail team
- Lead, coach, and inspire associates to exceed performance expectations and uphold a positive team culture
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and create development plans
- Represent the brand by creating memorable, educational cooking classes
- Ensure quality and execution of cooking classes by following recipes and game plans
- Work with store leadership to increase foot traffic through classes and private events
- Maintain expertise on products and training resources
- Lead a customer-focused, guest obsessed culture on the sales floor and in the kitchen
- Address and resolve customer feedback related to the culinary program
- Drive sales growth by implementing strategies to enhance culinary and retail business
- Analyze key performance metrics daily to optimize store performance
- Manage daily store operations ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and control expenses
- Handle alcohol products in compliance with regulations
- Ensure store safety and cleanliness
- Maintain employee records and adhere to wage and hour laws
- Communicate and enforce Sur La Table policies and standard operating procedures
