Working as a Resident Chef requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, along with the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment
  • Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customers
  • Ability to stand for up to 5 hours at a time
  • Ability to move about the store coaching and directing associates and class participants
  • Capability to perceive and differentiate flavors or odors using tongue or nose
  • Ability to grab reach push pull bend stoop kneel and crouch
  • Ability to use hands to chop whisk slice stir juice and demonstrate techniques
  • Ability to lift or move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders to retrieve or move merchandise
  • Ability to operate a computer POS system keyboards scanners and mouse
  • Ability to work flexible schedule nights weekends and holidays including 6-8 classes per week
  • Ability to work in variable kitchen environments including open flames hot surfaces temperature variations and allergens

Job Qualifications

  • Culinary degree strongly preferred
  • 1-2 years experience as a culinary instructor
  • 3-4 years progressively responsible kitchen management experience
  • Valid food manager certification
  • Proven track record of achieving sales and motivating teams
  • Strong leadership skills to inspire develop and retain team
  • Excellent communication problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Passion for community engagement and exceptional customer experiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and retail systems preferred

Job Duties

  • Recruit mentors and retain a high-performing team to meet the business needs of culinary and retail
  • Lead coach and inspire associates to exceed performance expectations and uphold positive team culture
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations provide feedback and create development plans to support growth
  • Represent Sur La Table’s brand and culture by creating memorable educational experiences
  • Ensure outstanding cooking class experience by following recipes and game plans and holding employees accountable for quality
  • Work with leadership to increase foot traffic and store engagement through classes and events
  • Analyze performance metrics daily to optimize store performance and meet culinary and retail goals
