The Rental Equipment Delivery Driver role at Western States is integral to the success of their Cat Rental Store operations. This position is responsible for the safe receipt, shipping, delivery, and pickup of rental equipment, which often involves handling heavy construction machinery and equipment. The role requires operating a Class 8 truck, managing loads that can weigh up to 70,000 pounds, and meticulously ensuring equipment is securely loaded and transported using the safest and most efficient routes. This position also involves routine maintenance and organizational tasks, including keeping the truck and storage yard neat, orderly, and mechanically sound. Compliance with Department of Transportation regulations is strictly enforced, including maintaining an electronic logbook and adhering to all driving safety rules, especially when transporting oversized loads. The driver also plays a critical customer service role, providing equipment usage instructions and reporting any damages or mechanical issues promptly to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Class A CDL driver's license
- Current DOT physical card
- Minimum six months commercial driving experience with tractor and trailer
- Preferred six months experience operating light construction equipment
- English communication skills (speaking, reading, writing)
- Ability to stand for long periods, walk, sit, climb stairs, reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, lean, twist
- Ability to generate 97 ft lbs of force by pushing and pulling
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs repeatedly and carry up to 20 lbs while ascending/descending stairs
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders repeatedly
- Ability to assemble/disassemble nuts and bolts with repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and crouching
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and environments
- Must meet all safety requirements for applicable policies
Job Qualifications
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Class A CDL driver's license with excellent driving record and current DOT physical card
- Minimum of six months commercial driving experience with over the road tractor and trailer
- Minimum six months experience with usage and operation of light construction equipment preferred
- Ability to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English
- Working knowledge of CAT and other brands of construction equipment
- Knowledge of DOT legal requirements
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or comparable systems
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to work overtime with minimum notice
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Consistent attendance
Job Duties
- Deliver and pick up rental equipment using Class 8 truck with loads weighing up to 70,000 lbs
- Load and unload equipment onto trailer following all safety requirements to ensure equipment is secured properly
- Determine most efficient route based on load weight, road, and traffic conditions
- Maintain an electronic Driver's Logbook as required by DOT regulations
- Operate multiple different brands of equipment including CAT, Genie, JLG, GME, and more
- Follow DOT rules and regulations regarding oversize loads and permits
- Administer daily inspection requirements and maintain current CDL
- Instruct customers on proper equipment use and safety procedures
- Communicate equipment damages to Rental Coordinators promptly
- Report equipment issues to Lead Technician for timely resolution
- Utilize company tablet/phone to retrieve dispatch information and document equipment pictures
- Assist on service tasks for CRS as needed
- Report delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic, or emergencies
- Report all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment
- Maintain delivery truck appearance and mechanical condition
- Represent Western States and The CAT Rental Store professionally, adhering to customer care standards
- Support Western States' strategic programs, projects, and initiatives
- Work within and promote corporate vision, mission, and values
- Perform other duties as assigned
