Job Description
NMS Camp Services is a division of NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., a well-established organization committed to providing high-quality services in remote and challenging environments. NMS specializes in camp services that support various industries, ensuring operational efficiency and safety in remote and rotational work settings, especially in Alaska. Known for their strong commitment to safety, integrity, and respect, NMS Camp Services fosters a positive work culture where employee development and adherence to operational standards are prioritized. By living their core values that emphasize safety, honesty, commitments, respect, and environmental stewardship, NMS creates a trustworthy and stable working environment for its employees and clients alike.
The position of Remote Chef at NMS Camp Services based in Anchorage, AK, serves a critical role supporting food service management and production on the North Slope. This remote, rotational position is ideal for experienced culinary professionals who thrive in dynamic and high-volume environments. The Remote Chef is responsible not only for preparing and managing the food service production but also for leading up to 30 kitchen staff within remote camp facilities. This leadership role involves ensuring all employees receive appropriate training, guidance, and support to deliver quality service while upholding strict safety and sanitation standards.
A substantial component of this role includes monitoring and maintaining clean and organized work areas, managing food preparation, and delivering a variety of meals that meet recipe standards and quality expectations. The Remote Chef must also effectively communicate and engage with both clients and staff to resolve issues and continually improve service delivery. Safety oversight is a key aspect of the position, requiring active participation in safety programs, conducting multiple safety meetings, and coordinating all safety-related activities to reinforce a culture of responsibility and prevention.
Due to the remote nature of the role, candidates must be prepared for physically demanding work that includes long shifts of standing and working in dormitory-style settings. Employees are expected to be fit for duty, handling physical requirements such as lifting heavy loads and performing repetitive physical tasks in variable indoor and outdoor Arctic weather conditions. Since travel to and from remote camps is necessary, flexibility and readiness for travel via plane or bus are essential.
The role demands a professional who can make independent decisions, manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and maintain composure under pressure. Moreover, successful candidates will have a strong background in high-volume food production, supervisory experience, and the ability to instruct and train staff effectively. Certifications like Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe are mandatory, alongside passing rigorous pre-employment tests including drug screening, physical assessments, and safety compliance requirements.
NMS provides a comprehensive safety environment guided by core values that ensure ethical and respectful treatment of all individuals while protecting the environment and sustaining the company’s mission. Candidates residing outside Anchorage are responsible for travel and accommodation expenses for pre-employment testing. The position not only offers a challenging career opportunity for culinary professionals but also supports personal and professional growth in a unique and rewarding work setting.
