Located in the Midwest, this hospital prides itself on a compassionate and highly skilled team consisting of experienced veterinarians, Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), and well-trained support staff. As part of the VCA family, Great Lakes Veterinary Specialists leverages cutting-edge technology, including state-of-the-art CT imaging, to support complex medical cases and deliver comprehensive emergency care around the clock. The facility fosters an environment of ongoing learning and professional development, bolstered by a strong mentorship program designed to help new team members transition smoothly and thrive independently.

The hospital is currently seeking a talented Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join its growing Emergency Team. This full-time position offers a variable schedule with competitive compensation ranging from $25 to $33 per hour, reflecting experience, skill level, and licensure status. The ideal candidate is an experienced RVT passionate about patient care and eager to expand their knowledge and technical skills in a dynamic emergency setting. Candidates with 3 to 4 years of emergency experience are preferred but not mandatory.

This role is tailored for veterinary professionals seeking to advance their careers, including those interested in obtaining Veterinary Technician Specialty certification. Great Lakes Veterinary Specialists supports full technician skill utilization and encourages the pursuit of specialty credentials, providing financial support and career growth opportunities. The hospital’s culture emphasizes health and wellness, equity, inclusion, and diversity, fostering a workplace where questions are encouraged, and continuous training is the norm. New hires benefit from a comprehensive mentorship program to ensure confidence and competence in their duties. Staff appreciation is a priority with events such as pop-up parties, games, and prizes, as well as practical perks like a discounted fresh meal delivery service.

In this role, the RVT will perform critical duties such as procedural anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and conducting thorough patient histories and physical exams. The hospital utilizes hands-free radiology techniques to optimize associate safety. RVTs collaborate closely with multidisciplinary hospital teams including Internal Medicine and Critical Care to provide gold-standard veterinary medicine. Compassionate patient care is at the heart of this position, requiring a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to think quickly in emergency situations.

Great Lakes Veterinary Specialists offers an attractive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid parental leave, infertility benefits, paid vacation and sick time, a 401(k) plan, and more. Additional perks include leadership opportunities for career advancement, hefty discounts on VetGirl and Fear Free certifications, free NAVTA membership, life and disability insurance, referral bonuses, and free access to educational resources such as Plumbs and Vetfolio.

The hospital prides itself on fostering a collaborative, respectful, and goal-driven team environment where employees are encouraged to contribute ideas and grow professionally. This position demands adaptable and determined individuals capable of wearing multiple hats and thriving in a fast-paced, team-oriented emergency veterinary setting.
