Job Description

UW Health is a prestigious integrated academic health system based in Madison, Wisconsin, renowned as the state’s number one hospital for thirteen consecutive years according to U.S. News & World Report. This expansive health system comprises six main hospitals, a Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) partner hospital in Madison, and additional hospitals located within the main hospital in Illinois, in addition to over 90 clinics spread throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Serving more than 800,000 patients annually, UW Health is among the region's largest employers with over 24,000 staff members including 1,800 physicians, many of whom hold faculty positions at the distinguished University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. This association with an academic institution ensures advanced, innovative healthcare services underpinned by the latest medical research and evidence-based practice.

UW Health believes in holistic patient care — focusing on diagnosing and treating illness while actively partnering with patients for overall health and wellness. The East Madison Hospital, the newest facility within UW Health, exemplifies this approach. It is one of the most technologically advanced hospitals and wellness centers nationally, providing a nurturing environment where patient care excellence is the core mission.

The Registered Nurse (RN) Manager for Med Surg position at East Madison Hospital is a senior nursing leadership role designed for experienced nurses who want to contribute strategically to patient care operations. This staff role is ongoing and full-time with a schedule typically Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, although hours may fluctuate depending on department needs. The RN Manager supervises daily clinical operations, ensuring a seamless delivery of patient care within the medical-surgical specialty. This involves leading a team of nurses and clinical staff, coordinating patient care services, and operational workforce management including staff scheduling and evaluating employee performance.

Beyond clinical oversight, the RN Manager drives financial stewardship by preparing and administering revenue and operating budgets, forecasting volume and resource needs, and managing full-time equivalent (FTE) staffing. This role requires a blend of clinical expertise, leadership acumen, and budgetary management skills to meet both patient care and operational objectives.

UW Health supports nursing leadership with an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance, paid time off, retirement plans, paid parental leave, and adoption assistance. Flexible scheduling options promote a healthy work-life balance, while employee wellbeing resources focusing on emotional, financial, and physical health bolster workforce resilience. Additionally, UW Health embraces shared governance, ensuring that every nurse's voice contributes to the practice environment. The institution values continuous professional growth, offering tuition benefits to support career advancement and incentives such as referral bonuses for recruiting qualified nursing staff.

In sum, this RN Manager role at UW Health East Madison Hospital presents a remarkable opportunity to join an award-winning health system that leads in patient care quality and innovation, with empowered nursing leadership that makes a tangible difference in community health outcomes.
