Job Description
Corpus Christi Medical Center Bay Area is a part of HCA Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. The medical center serves the Coastal Bend community with a comprehensive range of medical services and a state-of-the-art acute care hospital. With more than 630 beds, the Corpus Christi Medical Center system includes multiple facilities offering specialties such as cardiovascular services, bariatrics, gynecology, robotic surgery, neonatal care, emergency services, rehabilitation, behavioral health, and oncology. As part of HCA Healthcare's extensive network, the Bay Area hospital embodies a commitment to high-quality patient care, advanced medical technology, and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery. It also hosts a graduate medical education program fostering the development of future healthcare professionals.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) Day Surgery PRN to join a collaborative and dedicated surgical team. The position is designed for nurses seeking flexibility, with self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance, ensuring predictability and work-life balance. The medical center invests continuously in cutting-edge surgical instruments, devices, and patient positioning equipment, enabling nurses to provide care safely and efficiently in the operating room. You'll be part of a culture that values mutual respect and open communication, offering regular rounding with unit leaders and charge nurses to share insights and suggestions for patient care and workflow improvements. This role requires being on-call during select non-business hours.
As a Registered Nurse in the Day Surgery PRN team, you will be responsible for evaluating patients before surgery, educating patients and their families about the surgical procedures and peri-operative process, and preparing patients, including administering intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification. You will participate actively in safety protocols like surgical site verification, briefing, time out, and debriefing. The position demands prompt recognition and response to patient emergencies and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care guided by evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives. As an integral member of an interdisciplinary team comprising surgeons, surgical technologists, and providers, you will utilize critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills, and leadership to ensure safe nursing care is delivered independently. Continuous patient condition assessment, thorough documentation, and patient and family education regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care are essential.
This position requires at least an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing, a registered nurse license, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment. A minimum of two years of nursing experience is preferred. The role does not require travel.
Corpus Christi Medical Center Bay Area offers a comprehensive total rewards package supporting health, life, career, and retirement goals. Benefits include medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, behavioral health, and telemedicine services. Employee wellbeing is supported through free counseling and referral services. Time away from work benefits encompass paid time off, paid family leave, long- and short-term disability coverage, and leaves of absence. Financial wellness is promoted through a 401(k) plan with a 100% match on 3% to 9% of pay based on tenure, employee stock purchase plans, flexible spending accounts, and financial counseling. Educational support includes tuition assistance, student loan help, certification support, scholarships, and partnerships with nursing education institutions. Additional benefits cover fertility and family building assistance, adoption support, life insurance, supplemental health protection plans, auto and home insurance, legal counseling, identity theft protection, and consumer discounts.
