Regional Safety Manager - Data Center Construction

The role of Regional Safety Manager based in Des Moines, Iowa, is a critical leadership position supporting data center projects in Iowa and Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation, and consistent application of The Weitz Safety Standards within the assigned business regions. This position oversees the performance and accountability of Safety Managers, Safety Engineers, and Project Safety Managers assigned to Weitz projects, ensuring a zero-injury work environment and effectively managing risks associated with construction operations. Reporting directly to the Safety Director, the Regional Safety Manager will serve as a liaison with executive leaders and play an essential role in fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

This position demands a proactive leader with deep expertise in the safety and construction fields, particularly someone with at least 10 years of experience as a safety manager, safety engineer, or equivalent safety professional role. Experience with data center construction projects is preferred. The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for input on regional and segment safety committees, researching and maintaining up-to-date safety information, publicizing safety protocols, and providing critical safety resources related to security and fire protection. The role also includes preparing comprehensive safety performance reports, participating in high-risk preconstruction meetings, overseeing project safety planning and job safety analysis development, and holding the authority to shut down operations in imminent danger scenarios.

Additionally, the Regional Safety Manager will manage the regional safety department's budget, develop an extensive employee safety education curriculum covering construction safety, emergency preparedness, hazardous material management, and injury prevention, and ensure all safety standards meet OSHA requirements, including maintaining current OSHA 500 course certification. Other responsibilities include auditing, enforcement of safety policies, training programs, and managing safety claims.
