The Recreation Program Coordinator position within the City of Newberry Parks & Recreation Department is an essential role responsible for planning, implementing, and administrating a variety of recreational programs and athletic activities. Reporting directly to the Program Supervisor, the Coordinator's primary duty is to manage a comprehensive athletic program that spans all age groups. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of relevant recreational sports programming preferred
- One year of recreational sports supervision or equivalent preferred
- Ability to pass a standard background check
- Ability to pass a physical exam
- Ability to pass a standard drug screening
- Ability to maintain or acquire valid driver's license
- Ability to acquire and maintain CPR and first aid certification
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Two years of relevant recreational sports programming preferred
- One year of recreational sports supervision or equivalent preferred
- Knowledge of athletic and recreational programs
- Understanding of facility and equipment safety
- Experience with operating budgets and policies
- Proficient in office software including word processing and spreadsheets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to motivate and manage athletic programs
- CPR and first aid certification preferred
- Ability to pass background check, physical exam and drug screening
- Valid driver's license or ability to acquire one
Job Duties
- Plan, organize, coordinate and administer indoor and outdoor recreational activities, special events, camps and athletic programs
- Provide direction and oversight for all athletic programs and activities
- Supervise the control, issuance and maintenance of all athletic equipment and facilities
- Research and prepare written and oral reports including annual and special reports
- Coordinate facility schedule with the Program Supervisor
- Perform opening and closing duties and maintain a clean facility during shifts
- Attend meetings for sports and leagues as required
- Greet the public, respond to inquiries and refer to appropriate staff
- Supervise recreation assistants, coaches, officials and volunteers
- Assist in developing and monitoring athletic budgets and revenues
- Implement and promote athletic programs including recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers and interns
- Work with Grounds Crew on field preparation
- Complete paperwork including inventory sheets and incident reports
- Coordinate with other organizations to implement programs
- Accompany participants at local and out-of-town events
- Maintain inventory of athletic equipment and supplies
- Ensure programs, facilities and equipment follow safety regulations
- Create a welcoming and professional environment
- Handle complaints and conduct meetings in a customer-friendly manner
- Attend professional development opportunities
- Perform additional tasks as needed
