The Service Department Supervisor role at Walser Automotive Group is a dynamic leadership position centered on managing and mentoring a team within the service department. This role requires a motivated individual to oversee the performance and development of departmental staff through evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary measures when necessary. The incumbent coordinates hiring efforts with the recruiting team to ensure the department is staffed with capable professionals. A key responsibility is to foster a positive work environment by addressing employee relations issues and ensuring strict adherence to company policies. The supervisor will also be involved in training staff, leading by example, and advocating for the team. Operational duties include managing technician productivity, overseeing dispatching systems, assigning repair orders based on technician skill levels, and providing expert technical guidance regarding vehicle needs. They must stay current on automotive product improvements and warranty policies to maintain service excellence.

Additionally, the supervisor is responsible for assisting with service advisor duties, maintaining cleanliness in the service drive area, conducting quality control checks on completed work, and ensuring compliance with safety policies, including the mandatory use of protective equipment in certain areas. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Five plus years previous experience working in a service department with service writing
  • Post-secondary education preferred or equivalent work and education experience
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead others
  • Prior supervisory or management experience a plus
  • ADP experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time and to lift up to 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Five plus years of service department experience with service writing
  • Post-secondary education preferred or equivalent work and education experience
  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred
  • Strong ADP system experience
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle technical automotive queries
  • Familiarity with safety and compliance standards

Job Duties

  • Motivate, counsel and monitor the performance of all department staff including performance evaluations, PIPs, disciplinary actions, professional development, promotions, pay evaluations and terminations
  • Monitor work schedules and time off requests
  • Coordinate with the Recruiting Department to interview and hire department staff
  • Ensure that any employee relations issues or concerns are addressed and escalated to HR when necessary
  • Train and manage staff in company policies and ensure adherence to all company policies
  • Lead by example and be an advocate for staff
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly tracking of technician productivity
  • Utilize ADP knowledge and ability to process invoices
  • Oversee and monitor technician dispatching to assure the correct operation of the computer system
  • Ensure work repair orders are designated to the appropriate technician based on the technician's capabilities
  • Provide answers to the store's technical questions regarding vehicle needs
  • Remain current on new models and product improvements including warranty coverage and extensions
  • Manage and work the Service Advisor desk as needed
  • Ensure Walser service processes and practices are up to date and followed by employees
  • Perform quality control checks on completed mechanical work
  • Ensure that the service drive area is kept clean at all times
  • Monitor and assist in the implementation of company initiatives, legal compliance, and cascading company communications
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures and protect company assets
  • Wear safety eyewear at all times when in Recon warehouse service departments
  • Wear hard-toed shoes and slip resistant footwear when in Recon warehouse service departments
  • Perform all other duties, tasks and projects as assigned
