The role available is a Part-Time Patient Services Representative position, classified as non-exempt and benefit eligible, offering approximately 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule. Hours include first shift from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on variable days and every third Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with no work required on Sundays or holidays. The pay range for this role is between $17.43 and $20.92 per hour, with the exact rate dependent on factors such as experience and location, reflecting Summa Health's commitment to pay equity and internal fairness.
In this role, the Patient Services Representative is essential in providing a warm, welcoming environment for all patients and visitors upon arrival. Responsibilities include promptly greeting and assisting customers, monitoring patient wait times through visual observation and Radiology Information System tools, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is processed accurately. The representative handles telephone communications professionally in line with established protocols and performs required follow-up actions. In addition, this role supports the orientation of new employees and students, assisting them to acclimate effectively to the department’s workflow and standards.
Financial responsibilities are also a key component of this position. The representative collects account balances and establishes payment plans for patients at the time of check-in, ensuring all financial transactions align with hospital policies. The position requires proficiency in using various office technologies including computers, fax machines, scanners, and medical software systems, alongside the capability to pass a medical terminology exam to ensure effective communication within the healthcare environment.
This patient-facing role demands excellent interpersonal skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare setting. The successful candidate should be comfortable managing interruptions and handling fluctuating patient volumes efficiently and courteously. The role entails working both independently and collaboratively as part of the healthcare team, requiring adaptability and professionalism at all times.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year prior clerical experience in medical records, insurance claims processing, customer service, or related fields
- Experience with computers in Windows or DOS
- Ability to pass medical terminology exam
- Light typing skills
- Ability to work independently and with others
- Ability to handle peak volumes and interruptions
- Successful training and competency testing in Radiology Information System
- Proficiency with PC, fax, and office equipment
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work within customer service policies
- Ability to interact respectfully with diverse patient populations

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year prior clerical experience in medical records, medical insurance claims processing, customer service, or related public contact
- Experience using computers in Windows or DOS environments
- Ability to pass medical terminology exam administered by Human Resources
- Successful completion of training and competency testing for Radiology Information System modules
- Ability to interact effectively with patients and customers with respect and dignity
