Job Description
Detroit Medical Center (DMC) is a renowned healthcare system located in Metro Detroit, Michigan. It stands as the leading academically integrated hospital system in the region and one of the largest healthcare providers in Southeast Michigan. Established for over 150 years, DMC has built a legacy rooted in exceptional patient care, medical education, and community service. The center is widely recognized for quality and innovation, having received numerous national awards for hospital operations and patient care. With a mission to serve everyone in the community, DMC operates eight hospitals and more than 140 clinics and outpatient sites, delivering comprehensive healthcare services to diverse populations. Its commitment to inclusion, respect, and collaboration defines the work culture, often described by employees as a "forever family" who support each other professionally and personally.
Among the hospitals within DMC is the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, a nationally recognized pediatric hospital and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This specialized hospital delivers exceptional care in pediatric and adolescent medicine, including surgical, critical care, neonatal, and rehabilitation services. Known for innovative diagnostic technology like PET and MRI scans designed specifically for children, the hospital serves thousands of young patients annually. The Children's Hospital emphasizes compassionate care and holistic support to families, aligned with DMC’s overall values.
The role of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) at DMC offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to patient care through specialized nutritional expertise. This full-time, staff-level position involves working closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to assess, plan, and implement nutrition programs tailored to patient needs. The professional will be responsible for evaluating patients’ nutritional statuses, developing individualized care plans, providing counseling and education, and collaborating with clinical teams to improve health outcomes and enhance recovery. Given the hospital's pediatric focus, the RDN will often address the nutritional needs of children with complex medical conditions, coordinating care that supports growth, development, and overall well-being.
Beyond direct patient interaction, the RDN will help maintain compliance with institutional policies and regulatory standards, ensuring high-quality nutritional services. The position requires managing food service operations related to dietetic requirements, maintaining accurate records, and potentially contributing to community outreach programs that educate families on healthy eating practices. This role provides a platform to grow professionally within a leading academic medical center, benefiting from ongoing education and development opportunities. DMC supports its staff with comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; retirement savings plans; paid time off; and employee assistance programs.
Joining DMC as an RDN means becoming part of a dedicated, compassionate team committed to making a positive difference every day. This position suits health professionals eager to work in a dynamic, supportive, and mission-driven environment where clinical expertise directly impacts patient lives. Opportunities exist to work in a collaborative setting that values each member’s contribution to holistic healthcare delivery and community wellness, reinforcing DMC’s reputation as a beacon of excellence in Southeast Michigan.
