The role of Rail Switching Technician at PSC Group is a full-time, hands-on position critical to the smooth operation of industrial rail logistics. The Rail Switching Technician’s main responsibility is to move railcars safely within an industrial facility, ensuring proper handling and organization of loaded, empty, and preloaded railcars. Essential duties include reviewing track lists, securing railcars by setting brakes and verifying couplings, separating cars for shipment, and weighing inbound and outbound railcars to comply with weight limits. PSC Group provides paid training to equip new hires with the necessary skills and knowledge for success in this role. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and physical fitness tests
  • Strong attention to safety protocols and ability to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Reliable transportation to and from work if required
  • Good communication skills and Basic English literacy

Job Qualifications

  • Experience is a plus but not required, paid on-the-job training available
  • May require a valid driver’s license and/or a valid TWIC card depending on work location
  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
  • Able to wear all required PPE without restriction and pass any required medical exams
  • Speak, write, and read fluent English
  • Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality required

Job Duties

  • Reviews track lists to identify and organize railcars for spotting, separating, loading, or outbound movement
  • Ensures railcars are properly connected and secured by setting brakes and verifying couplings
  • Separates loaded cars for shipment from preloaded or empty railcars
  • Weighs inbound and outbound cars to confirm compliance with weight limits
  • Performs additional duties as needed to support safe and efficient rail operations
