Job Description

The hiring company is a reputable organization operating within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, known for maintaining high standards in product quality and safety. This establishment specializes in manufacturing and ensuring the microbiological integrity of susceptible materials, component parts, equipment, and facilities that play a crucial role in the production process. As a critical partner in supply chain and quality assurance, the company is committed to delivering products that meet rigorous microbiological quality standards, thereby protecting consumer health and complying with industry regulations.

The role open for recruitment is that of a QC Microbiology Scientist, offered initially on a 6-month contract basis with the potential for permanent hire, reflecting a temp-to-hire employment type. This position requires in-office presence Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM, plus participation in a weekend rotation once per month involving morning shifts on Saturday and Sunday. This schedule underscores the importance of consistent microbial quality monitoring and timely response to supply chain demands.

The QC Microbiology Scientist's primary responsibility is to ensure that all microbiological standards are consistently achieved and maintained across the company’s manufacturing systems and processes. This includes safeguarding the product integrity of materials and components susceptible to contamination. The scientist will coordinate and perform a variety of laboratory activities that support departmental goals such as meeting project deadlines and providing timely support to supply chain operations. Collaborating closely with operations and other quality assurance teams, the scientist ensures that microbiological risks are evaluated and addressed in the design and implementation of facilities, equipment, and systems.

This role requires applying advanced technical knowledge to respond to complex microbial contamination issues, aberrant test results, environmental excursions, and root cause analyses. The position entails significant responsibility, including recognizing potential contamination, monitoring laboratory results for inconsistencies or out-of-specifications, and communicating any issues promptly to quality management and customer groups. The scientist is also tasked with ensuring that affected materials are properly accounted for and controlled to prevent unauthorized use or release until compliance is verified.

In addition to core quality control testing duties such as microbial content testing, rapid methods, media preparation, and non-standard testing, the scientist supports environmental monitoring and cleaning validation programs. Responsibilities extend to executing environmental audits, coordinating contamination investigations, and supporting global efforts for cleaning validation and microbiological risk evaluations. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate microbiological considerations from project inception through to implementation.

Experienced candidates will bring a strong microbiological foundation with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Biology, or a related science field, along with at least three years of work experience, including supervisory roles. Candidates with an Associate degree plus six years’ laboratory experience are also considered. The position requires matured microbiological judgment, technical expertise in method validation, GMP compliance, and proficiency in various microbiological testing and monitoring methodologies.

Overall, this QC Microbiology Scientist position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the safety and quality of critical manufacturing processes, enhance microbial risk management strategies, and support global operations in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The role is ideal for professionals seeking to leverage their expertise in microbiology within a highly regulated industry committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
