Job Description
The company is a dedicated and mission-driven organization focused on excelling in its industry by providing the best products and services to customers. It is committed to fostering trust-based relationships with suppliers, ensuring profitability for shareholders, and creating opportunities for the growth and development of all its team members. The company operates within a framework of core values that include Availability, Determination, Discipline, Humility, Ownership, Simplicity, and Sincerity, which guide its daily operations and strategic decisions.
This organization is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Supervisor. The role reports directly to the QA Superintendent and carries primary responsibility for managing the FSQA workforce to achieve all safety, food safety, and quality goals as set by facility management. This leadership position involves supervising FSQA personnel and overseeing the quality and food safety aspects of production. The FSQA Supervisor plays a vital role in implementing and maintaining quality assurance and food safety programs such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures).
The role demands a proactive and detail-oriented professional who can coordinate the FSQA team’s activities, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and government standards. The individual will conduct investigations related to quality assurance and food safety processes and lead initiatives for continuous process improvements. Participation in broader Operational Excellence projects is also expected to enhance overall manufacturing efficiency and safety.
Key responsibilities include conducting microbial research and development testing, managing labor within budget constraints, minimizing customer claims through engineering controls, ensuring sanitation standards are met, and improving employee safety by identifying hazards and troubleshooting solutions. The supervisor is also tasked with managing daily production planning and scheduling, overseeing employee timecards and vacation requests, and fostering strong working relationships between production supervision, USDA inspectors, and employees.
The role requires excellent communication skills as the supervisor must regularly interact with USDA inspectors and other departments to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP plans, and company policies. They will also be responsible for directing and motivating QA employees, conducting employee evaluations and hiring, performing product and raw material sampling, and testing new equipment from a quality perspective.
This position operates in a dynamic production environment with exposure to various conditions such as chemicals, machinery, slippery floors, extreme temperatures, and loud noises. A commitment to working 40+ hours per week, including occasional weekends, is necessary.
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Food Science, Meat Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, or Food Engineering. Extensive technical expertise in quality assurance and production, coupled with supervisory experience, is essential. Exceptional interpersonal skills, bilingual abilities, independent decision-making, conflict resolution, and adaptability are highly valued competencies. Applicants should demonstrate integrity, continuous improvement mindset, compassion, and strong organizational skills. Basic computer knowledge and a solid attendance and safety record are also important.
Benefits include vision, medical, and dental coverage starting after 60 days of employment, paid time off including sick leave, vacation, and six company-observed holidays, and 401(k) eligibility beginning on the first day of employment with a company match after one year of service following vesting schedules. This opportunity offers a rewarding career for those passionate about ensuring food safety and quality within a supportive and value-driven company.
