Vigor Marine Group is a renowned leader in the marine maintenance and modernization sector, boasting a national footprint with a significant presence across the United States. Operating four shipyards, six dry docks, and over 20,000 feet of pier space strategically located on or near U.S. Naval bases and historic shipyards, Vigor Marine Group represents a significant force in the maritime industry. Their team of approximately 2,500 dedicated employees spread across four states—from the Pacific Northwest, through San Diego, to Norfolk—embody the core values and rich heritage of the company. With a strong commitment to the local communities where they operate, Vigor Marine Group provides living wage jobs that support local economies while delivering world-class maritime and industrial services essential to national defense readiness and security. The group prides itself not only on the quality of its work but also on being an employer of choice, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment that values diversity and equal opportunity.

The role offered is that of a Quality Assurance Inspector (Structural), a critical position within Vigor Marine Group’s quality department. This hourly, non-union position involves developing, tracking, administering, and scheduling tests and inspections, as well as authoring the required reports to ensure rigorous quality control throughout the marine fabrication and maintenance processes. The incumbent is responsible for inspecting both ongoing and completed craft work to certify that they meet the proper approvals and conform to test and inspection plans curated by the company's Quality Department. The role demands a thorough understanding of marine standards and regulations, including NAVSEA Standard Items, U.S. Coast Guard Regulations, and other relevant engineering standards.

Key responsibilities include formulating detailed test and inspection plans, acting as a liaison among supervision, crafts, and regulatory agencies, and ensuring all preliminary and final inspections comply meticulously with contract specifications. The inspector monitors craftsmanship to confirm adherence to quality and workmanship standards as defined by regulatory agencies, classifications societies, and accepted shipbuilding practices. Calibration of all instruments and gauges used during testing is another essential aspect of the role, ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory calibration guidelines. The position also requires reporting deficiencies needing corrective action, maintaining positive working relationships across crafts, regulatory bodies, and owner representatives, assisting in developing test memos and process control procedures, and administering training related to test and inspection requirements. The inspector is also responsible for verifying subcontractor qualifications and ensuring that subcontractor quality assurance submissions conform to contractual requirements.

This role operates within the guidelines of applicable codes relating to specific disciplines such as welding, electrical, and coatings. The inspector must possess the ability to analyze and apply acceptance criteria based on defined standards. Collaboration with various management levels, craft supervisors, and regulatory personnel is a key component, ensuring that all workers meet the necessary skills, certifications, and quality standards to complete their tasks.

Candidates for this position must be prepared to work in a dynamic and fast-paced shipyard environment, which may involve exposure to noise, dust, varying weather conditions, and the physical demands of climbing, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Travel requirements include up to 5% local and out-of-town travel, including air travel with prior notification. The company emphasizes safety and health, requiring candidates to pass drug and alcohol screening as part of pre-employment. Vigor Marine Group champions values such as truth, responsibility, evolution, and love, which guide the workplace culture.

The company is a federally contracted employer restricted to U.S. Persons and is firmly committed to inclusion and diversity, offering equal employment opportunities without discrimination. Reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities are available on request. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a premier maritime organization while developing professionally in a supportive and challenging environment.
