The Project Safety Manager is a key leadership role integral to maintaining the highest standards of safety across all heavy civil construction projects undertaken by Ames Construction. Located in Reno, Nevada, this role requires a proactive and experienced safety professional who is passionate about creating and sustaining a safe work environment for all employees. The Project Safety Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs tailored specifically to each project’s needs. This includes ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local safety regulations as well as company-specific safety standards.

In this role, the Project Safety Manager will conduct regular site inspections and audits, lead safety meetings, and provide ongoing training and education for project teams. They will investigate incidents and near misses, preparing thorough reports and corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences. Collaboration is essential, as the safety manager works closely with project managers and superintendents to integrate safety seamlessly into every phase of construction. Maintaining accurate safety documentation and serving as the main point of contact for all safety-related concerns on the project site is also a fundamental responsibility. This position demands strong leadership and communication skills, an ability to work under the dynamic conditions of outdoor construction environments, and a thorough knowledge of OSHA and MSHA standards.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, construction management, or a related field preferred
  • five plus years of experience in heavy civil construction safety role
  • valid driver’s license
  • ability to work in outdoor construction environments
  • strong understanding of federal and state safety regulations
  • excellent communication and leadership skills
  • ability to conduct site inspections and safety audits
  • ability to prepare safety reports and documentation

Job Qualifications

  • Five plus years of experience in a construction safety supervisorial role in heavy civil construction
  • knowledge of OSHA/MSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards
  • strong leadership skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment
  • certifications such as CSP, CHST, or OSHA 30 are highly desirable
  • highly knowledgeable in all aspects of civil construction
  • strong communication skills both written and oral
  • must have a positive attitude and possess excellent motivational skills
  • must have a valid driver's license
