The Project Manager role specializing in rail bridge design is pivotal within Michael Baker International's rail and transit portfolio. This position requires leadership in delivering complex, high-profile rail bridge projects, primarily for Class I railroads and transit agencies. It offers a unique opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the United States, with occasional travel to meet client and project needs, blending flexibility with impactful work. The role focuses on managing all aspects of project delivery including planning, staffing, budgeting, and execution across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. A critical element of the position is overseeing the technical design process, ensuring all rail structures comply with AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) standards and client requirements. Additionally, the Project Manager will develop cost estimates, compile comprehensive project documentation, and prepare reports that clearly communicate project status and outcomes.

Training and mentoring junior engineers forms an intrinsic part of the role, fostering growth in areas such as rail bridge design, rehabilitation, retaining wall design, culvert design, and construction staging. Ideal candidates are experienced professionals holding a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with a preference for those having a Master's degree in Structural Engineering. They bring between 7 to 10 years of specialized experience in bridge design and rehabilitation within a railroad context, coupled with demonstrated project management skills. Licensure as a Professional Engineer is required, with a Structural Engineer license highly desirable. Expertise in AREMA standards and familiarity with Class I Railroads, Passenger Rail, or transit agency operations is essential. The successful Project Manager will be recognized for their leadership, client relations, communication abilities, and capacity to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
