Job Description

Michael Baker International is a leading engineering and consulting firm renowned for its comprehensive services that span design, planning, architecture, environmental management, construction, and program management. Established with a legacy marked by experience, innovation, and integrity, the company operates from its headquarters in Pittsburgh and extends its reach through over 100 offices nationwide. Michael Baker International partners with a diverse client base on projects involving roads, bridges, tunnels, mass transit systems, airports, water treatment plants, arctic oil pipelines, environmental restoration efforts, and specialized overseas construction projects. The firm is known for its commitment to delivering sustainable and forward-thinking solutions tailored to meet the unique demands of each client and infrastructure challenge.

Within Michael Baker International's Rail and Transit Practice, the focused efforts address the evolving challenges of modern rail and transit systems. These challenges include rising energy prices, the trend toward urbanization, and increased environmental concerns. The practice supports freight, transit authority, and state Department of Transportation clients by providing expert services that tackle critical industry issues such as maintaining a state of good repair, capacity enhancement, safety improvements, community livability, asset management and maintenance, and the planning and development of new projects. A strong emphasis is placed on environmental stewardship and sustainable design to ensure that transit infrastructure projects align with ecological goals and community needs.

The company is currently seeking a skilled Transportation/Facilities Project Manager specializing in rail stations and transit facilities. This role is integral to the Transportation Practice, focusing on the management of various Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) facilities projects throughout both design and construction phases. Positioned in Rocky Hill, CT, within the Hartford area, this role offers a leadership opportunity to oversee project planning, execution, budgeting, staffing, and coordination across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.

The Transportation/Facilities Project Manager will be responsible for managing timelines, resources, and project deliverables, ensuring all activities are completed on schedule and within budget. They will serve as a liaison among internal departments, clients, and government agencies, maintaining clear communication and adherence to project standards. A significant part of the role involves reviewing technical designs to ensure compliance with client codes and requirements, preparing detailed reports, conducting cost analyses, and maintaining comprehensive project documentation. Client engagement and development represent another critical responsibility, as the manager leverages project successes to cultivate future business opportunities. The role also includes supporting safety initiatives and mentoring staff engaged in the design and construction of rail stations and transit facilities.

Candidates are expected to hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management, with professional licensure such as Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect preferred. The ideal applicant will possess over ten years of experience in the design, rehabilitation, and/or construction of transit facilities, with a particular specialization in railroad stations. Knowledge of CTDOT and local transit agencies is essential, along with proficiency in rail facilities structural design, specification reviews, and construction phase services. Excellent multi-project management skills, the ability to handle concurrent deadlines effectively, and strong client relationship-building capabilities are paramount.

This position offers a highly competitive compensation range from $215,000 to $270,000 per year, reflective of experience, qualifications, education, skill set, and work location. Michael Baker International is an equal opportunity employer committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace and conducts pre-employment substance abuse testing and background checks. The company continues to accept applications on a rolling basis until the role is successfully filled or the need for the position ceases.
