The company is currently seeking an HVAC Engineer to join their site-based team. This role is vital in ensuring the environmental precision and system reliability essential for pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. As an HVAC Engineer at Lonza, candidates will be responsible for engineering, troubleshooting, and optimizing critical HVAC systems, guaranteeing that these systems comply with regulatory requirements and operational efficiency standards specific to pharmaceutical production. In this role, the HVAC Engineer will lead capital projects including upgrades, retrofits, and sustainability initiatives such as airflow optimization and heat recovery systems to deliver enhanced operational impact. Collaborating closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and Building Automation Systems (BAS) teams, the engineer will resolve real-time system issues and manage site utility alarms. Responsibilities extend to designing, reviewing, and modifying HVAC systems – including Air Handling Units (AHUs), ducting, filtration, and heating/cooling systems – while performing essential airflow, load, and energy calculations to support efficient system operations. The engineer will provide rapid troubleshooting for HVAC failures, deviations, temperature instabilities, and airflow imbalances—critical factors in maintaining controlled cleanroom environments.
Furthermore, the role involves the integration and monitoring of HVAC systems via BAS platforms like Siemens Desigo. This includes tracking operational trends, monitoring alarms, and implementing automated adjustments to maintain optimal environmental conditions. Adherence to strict regulatory compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and Good Engineering Practice (GEP) standards is a top priority. The engineer will support audits, manage change controls, and develop rigorous Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure continuous compliance. Job Requirements
- 3-8+ years in HVAC engineering or utilities systems, preferably within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or highly regulated environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Deep understanding of HVAC system design, cleanroom/controlled environments, and BAS/controls systems integration
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, verify airflows, manage equipment data, and execute sustainability improvements
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of working effectively across cross-functional engineering, quality, and operations teams
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field with transferable engineering capabilities
