The Grand Prairie, TX, location is currently seeking a skilled Production Painter for the 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Friday shift. This is a full-time position offering competitive pay ranging from $22.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience. The role reports directly to the Production Lead and Plant Manager and falls under a non-exempt FLSA status. The Production Painter - Coatings Application position involves operating in a highly controlled environment, primarily using HVLP spray guns within a paint booth. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of painting experience, with a background ideally rooted in automotive collision repair and auto body painting. Key responsibilities range from preparing and mixing paint according to supplier specifications, sanding and surface preparation, to maintaining cleanliness of the paint lane and equipment. The role necessitates physical stamina to meet job demands, such as lifting up to 100 pounds, and requires passing a physical and respiratory evaluation.

Employees in this role must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production setting. They will be expected to understand paint specifications for different customers, maintain accurate sample records for each lot of paint, replace filters in the paint booth and oven, and ensure safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage are consistently followed. Effective communication with managers concerning equipment or paint quality issues is essential, as is cooperating with team members to maintain production goals.

The successful Production Painter will have familiarity with equipment including drill presses, rubber mallets, agitator drums, air supplies, pallet jacks, compressors, paint bucket opener tools, paint booths, ovens, and spray guns. They will also be capable of measuring materials accurately and consistently. The work environment is often loud and involves exposure to toxic chemicals, necessitating proper use of PPE, with mask fit testing provided by the employer.

Job Requirements

  • Experience with spray paint using HVLP guns

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Learns and understands painting area and equipment
  • Follows production schedule for the amount of paint needed during the day for painting
  • Ensures all mixing supplies needed are available
  • Prepares all paint according to paint suppliers’ specifications
  • Sands and prepares surface for repainting
  • Ensures the paint lane is clean
  • Keeps all tools, mixing equipment, and mixing area clean
  • Fills solvent containers on the production floor
  • Recognizes color and ensures correct color is used
  • Understands assembly and disassembly of paint gun
  • Communicates with the manager about any issues with the paint gun, air supply, paint quality, and paint booth
  • Notifies manager when supplies need to be reordered
  • Paints samples for every lot of paint opened and adds information on a bucket on the back of the sample
  • Replaces filters in paint booth and oven as needed and ensures overall cleanliness of paint booth and oven
  • Learns paint specifications for different customers, recognizes any issues with preparation, and notifies cleaners of problem
  • Paints units using proper technique and follows instructions to ensure proper finish
  • Follows safety guidelines and always wears personal protective equipment and ensures proper care of equipment
  • Maintains productive pace as set by manager
  • Works cooperatively with other team members
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
