Hamilton County is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse to join their Health & Social Services Division. This position operates under the general supervision of a physician and involves delivering primary care and/or reproductive and sexual health services. This role is critical in providing comprehensive care, focusing on chronic disease management, preventive care, and family planning under approved protocols. The Advanced Practice Nurse will engage in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and management, including placing and removing intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants. Prescribing medications, ordering laboratory tests, and making referrals are key components of this position. The nurse will also serve as an educator to clients and the community, offering vital information on public health resources and services.

Working in this role requires participating actively in continuous professional development, including ongoing education, policy revisions, peer reviews, and mentoring other health care providers. The position entails involvement in community outreach programs, mobile medical events, and regular travel to various county clinics to provide wide-reaching health services. Working hours may be modified during public health emergencies to meet community needs, reflecting the essential nature and flexible demands of this role.

Candidates for this position must be prepared to perform clinical services in both clinic and outreach settings, including physical exams and acute care. Knowledge of a variety of healthcare laws, professional practices, culturally sensitive care, and public health policies is required to deliver effective care and maintain compliance with legal and professional standards. This role is open to registered nurses possessing a master’s degree in clinical nursing specialties such as family practice, or those holding an Advanced Practice Nurse Certificate issued by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. Alternatively, new graduates with a Master of Science in Nursing may be considered, provided they meet certification eligibility requirements within specified timelines. Physicians licensed in Tennessee with appropriate certification or eligibility are also eligible for this position. A valid driver’s license and completion of required defensive driving training are mandatory.
