The Prepared Foods Team Leader role at Whole Foods Market carries significant responsibility and influence within the retail environment. This position involves overall leadership and management of the Prepared Foods team, focusing on daily operations that encompass profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor, regulatory compliance, and special projects. The role requires a proactive leader who is accountable for hiring, developing, and managing team members through performance coaching and, when necessary, corrective actions or separations. The Team Leader ensures a positive company image by delivering courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and maintains adherence to all food safety and health regulations. This role also demands coordination with other department leaders and vendors to optimize product assortment, merchandising standards, and inventory controls.

Beyond typical retail management duties, the Prepared Foods Team Leader is expected to foster an outstanding work environment marked by strong teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale. Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand/walk 6-8 hours during an 8-hour work day
  • Ability to perform hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to perform bending, twisting, squatting and reaching motions
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to work in temperature conditions from freezing (less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit) to over 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Availability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders

Job Qualifications

  • 24+ months retail experience including 12+ months of team leadership experience
  • Advanced knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management
  • Food safety certification or commitment to obtain within 6 months
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
  • Capable of teaching others positively
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
  • Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
