The role of Prepared Foods Team Leader at Whole Foods Market involves overseeing the Prepared Foods department, including coffee and juice displays, ensuring they are compelling and well-maintained. This position assists with scheduling and supervising team members while supporting the Prepared Foods Team Leader and Associate Team Leader to maintain smooth daily operations. It requires excellent organizational and leadership skills as the Team Leader is responsible for delegating tasks, training new and existing team members to build a high-performance team, and minimizing turnover. The Team Leader ensures that all department procedures are followed, including adherence to health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and company policies. They also maintain a positive and friendly environment for both customers and team members, fostering teamwork, respect, and outstanding morale.

The position demands a proactive approach to customer service, ensuring that customer needs are promptly met and that the department achieves the highest standards of retail execution. This includes maintaining clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated displays and shelves, managing department openings and closings, and providing performance evaluations and feedback to team members. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and operational applications is required to monitor financial performance, profitability, and inventory. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various temperature conditions and physical postures. Applicants must also have a flexible schedule, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • able to stand and walk 6-8 hours in an eight-hour workday
  • able to perform hand use such as grasping, pushing, and pulling
  • capable of bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • exposed to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • able to work in temperatures below freezing, in refrigerators, and above 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • able to work in wet and dry conditions
  • flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • able to use tools and heavy equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks
  • may require use of ladders

Job Duties

  • Supervises and delegates tasks to Prepared Foods team members
  • works with Prepared Foods trainer to train team members and sustain a high-performance team
  • assists in training new team members using checklists and materials
  • keeps cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, and rotated
  • opens and closes department following procedures
  • ensures all necessary breaks are given
  • communicates team concerns to Team Leader and Associate Team Leader
  • sets and achieves high standards of retail execution
  • fosters a positive environment of teamwork, respect, and morale
  • maintains awareness of customer flows and directs team members to meet customer needs
  • selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels team members
  • provides timely and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • consistently communicates and models company vision and goals
