Job Description

Tacocina is a distinctive open-air taqueria located in Williamsburg's Domino Park, offering a unique dining experience that blends casual eating with breathtaking views of Manhattan's skyline. As part of Danny Meyer's prestigious Union Square Hospitality Group, Tacocina prides itself on delivering high-quality tacos, cocktails, and seasonal bites in a vibrant and welcoming environment. The establishment emphasizes excellence in service and hospitality, creating a memorable atmosphere where guests can enjoy innovative cuisine and scenic riverfront surroundings.

The role of Prep Cook / Porter at Tacocina is essential for maintaining the high standards of food quality and hospitality that the restaurant is known for. This seasonal position, extending until Fall 2026, is perfect for individuals who are warm, friendly, and highly motivated to provide outstanding service to guests. Prep Cooks / Porters primarily work in back-of-house stations, supporting kitchen operations by preparing ingredients, assisting in cooking tasks, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the facility. This role is designed to uphold Union Square Hospitality Group’s culture of Enlightened Hospitality, focusing on teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to the guest experience.

Candidates for this role are expected to bring at least one year of experience in food service or customer service, with knowledge of fast casual food and beverage programs being highly advantageous. Familiarity with point of sale systems, basic cooking techniques, and Department of Health compliance policies are also essential. The position requires physical stamina, as it involves prolonged periods of standing or walking. Excellent communication skills are necessary to ensure smooth coordination with team members and clear interaction with management.

Working at Tacocina not only offers competitive hourly wages starting at $20 per hour but also a range of benefits that reflect the company’s commitment to employee well-being and professional growth. These benefits include comprehensive health coverage (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, paid parental leave, a matched 401(k) savings plan, life insurance, and access to mental health and wellness services. Additionally, employees benefit from a generous dining discount across all Union Square Hospitality Group restaurants, commuter benefits, and direct financial assistance programs through the USHG HUGS Employee Relief Fund.

The culture at Tacocina and the wider Union Square Hospitality Group is deeply rooted in the principles of Enlightened Hospitality, characterized by humility, teamwork, continuous learning, excellence, generosity, and responsibility. The company fosters an environment where employees can grow personally and professionally, supported by mentorship opportunities and collaboration with passionate professionals in the hospitality industry.

This position not only offers immediate seasonal employment but also potential opportunities for transfer within the company based on performance, making it a valuable entry point for individuals aspiring toward a long-term career in hospitality. The Prep Cook / Porter role is both a chance to join a respected culinary team and to contribute meaningfully to delivering exceptional dining experiences along the East River in New York City.
