The role of the Prep Cook is integral to the smooth operation of the kitchen. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, an understanding of proper food handling techniques, and the ability to follow clear instructions closely. Duties include chopping vegetables, breaking down stations, cutting meats, weighing and mixing ingredients, washing and preparing vegetables, and ensuring food is stored properly and safely. The Prep Cook must be organized, proactive, and able to maintain a clean and safe work environment. The role typically involves standing for entire shifts and working in varied temperature conditions that are typical within a professional kitchen. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum 1-2 years experience in food service or hospitality
  • valid food handler's card may be required according to local or state regulations
  • ability to stand for entire scheduled shifts
  • ability to work in hot and cold kitchen environments
  • manual dexterity to cut and chop food
  • basic understanding of food storage and safety protocols

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 2 or 4 year culinary degree preferred but not required
  • minimum 1-2 years experience in food service or hospitality field
  • strong listening skills to understand directions
  • clear communication skills
  • basic math and written communication skills
  • ability to understand and execute recipes in English

Job Duties

  • follow clear direction in food preparation and storing
  • clearly label and date all prepped items especially those stored for later use
  • ensure that all food is properly prepared for use by the line cooks
  • chop vegetables and cut meat as needed
  • weigh and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • wash and prepare vegetables thoroughly
  • store food safely and hygienically
