Job Description

Erewhon Market is a pioneering company in the health and wellness industry, renowned for offering organic and high-quality food products across Southern California. Founded with a mission to promote healthy living, Erewhon has become a leader in providing fresh, nutrient-dense food options combined with exceptional retail experiences. With over 10 locations including Beverly Hills, Calabasas, Culver City, Grove (Fairfax), Manhattan Beach, Pasadena, Santa Monica, Silver Lake, Studio City, and Venice, Erewhon continues to expand rapidly. The company culture centers around unstoppable leadership, inspired and passionate staff, and a commitment to delivering the best food and wellness products on the planet. Erewhon values inclusivity and diversity, embracing equal opportunity employment for all candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability status, helping to foster a supportive and dynamic workplace environment.

The Prep Cook position at Erewhon’s Santa Monica location plays a critical role in the kitchen’s daily operations, serving as the heart of Culinary activities. This full-time role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $19 to $25 based on experience, with remarkable benefits including 50% off organic meals daily, 20% off in-store purchases, 401k with a 4% match, paid vacation, health benefits, bonuses, and opportunities for career growth. Prep Cooks at Erewhon must be fully knowledgeable of the brand and the café’s menu offerings, which encompass a diverse range of healthy prepared foods such as salads, soups, sandwiches, and wraps.

The role requires close collaboration with the Culinary Team to ensure smooth food preparation and café operations. Prep Cooks are entrusted with handling various food storage and cleaning tasks in compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations. This includes receiving and organizing incoming food orders, maintaining clean and sanitized prep areas and equipment, and precisely following knife safety protocols. The position also demands the operation of kitchen prep equipment safely and efficiently while supporting overall store needs as assigned by management. The ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, is essential, reflecting the business's dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Erewhon is deeply committed to employee health and safety, requiring all Prep Cook candidates to have a Food Handler Certification (Basic Food Safety) and the physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds regularly. Communication skills and teamwork are vital as Prep Cooks engage daily with team members in a collaborative kitchen setting. As the business continues to grow, Erewhon offers Prep Cooks substantial career development opportunities within the expanding Southern California locations. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about health and wellness who desire to advance their culinary skills while contributing to a forward-thinking, mission-driven company focused on delivering the highest quality organic products and customer service.
