Job Description

Avery Point by Erickson Senior Living is a distinguished continuing care retirement community located on a sprawling 94-acre campus in Short Pump, Virginia, just minutes from downtown Richmond. Managed by Erickson Senior Living, one of the nation’s largest and most respected providers of senior living and healthcare, Avery Point is committed to delivering an exceptional quality of life for its residents. The community offers vibrant lifestyle options, financial stability, and comprehensive health and well-being services tailored to support seniors in living better lives. As part of the Erickson Senior Living network, Avery Point benefits from decades of experience in senior care and a dedication to creating welcoming environments where residents and team members thrive alike.

The prep cook position at Avery Point offers a unique opportunity to join a dedicated culinary team focused on delivering chef-inspired dishes through the community’s Signature Dining Programs. This role involves both à la minute cooking and food preparation that upholds the highest standards of quality and safety. Located in a state-of-the-art kitchen equipped with top-notch culinary tools, the prep cook will work collaboratively with others who share a passion for food and craftsmanship. The employment is full-time and comes with a competitive starting salary typically ranging from $17 to $18 per hour based on experience. The position also avoids late-night shifts, promoting a healthy work-life balance with most shifts concluding before 9 pm.

In this role, you will assist with preparing all food items consistently, following proper safety and cooking techniques. The job demands the ability to work in varying temperature environments—from hot kitchens to cold refrigerators and freezers—and requires lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. The position involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the kitchen and workstations to ensure a safe dining experience for residents.

Team members at Avery Point enjoy an array of excellent benefits designed to support physical, financial, and personal well-being. In addition to health, dental, and vision insurance, the company offers a 401(k) plan with a company match, paid time off, volunteer hours, and discounts on food and drinks at on-site dining venues. The organization champions diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging within the workplace, contributing to a supportive and respectful culture that embraces growth opportunities as new communities open and existing ones expand.

Working at Avery Point means contributing to a mission-driven environment that values teamwork, respect, and continuous learning. Prep cooks here not only grow their culinary skills but also directly impact resident satisfaction by preparing and assembling high-quality menu items. The community prides itself on flexibility and work-life balance to help employees meet both their personal and professional goals. Furthermore, Avery Point provides on-site medical centers that offer wellness visits and sick care to team members over 18, reinforcing the company's commitment to employee health.
